Do any of you have site for really recent updates on trail conditions on the JMT? The ones I see are still talking about June.

I am doing a solo JMT starting 8/03. Anyone feel I will need to drag along crampons or axe for the southern passes like Forrester or Glen, etc.

    Thanks all,
    Evan

This won’t help for the souther passes, but up north…

Over the July 4th weekend, the JMT/PCT was ~100% snow covered from the Marie Lakes junction to below the highest crossing of Lyell Fork; i.e. above Lyell Base Camp. The highest crossing could be done on a snowbridge, but that option is probably no longer available or safe. The Base Camp crossing was less than knee-deep using the submerged rocks. PCT hikers reported they’d had similar conditions for “several days” southward. The snow was soft, and crampons/ice axes were not needed, but trekking poles certianly helped navigate the sun cups.
