Roger, I just weighed my cheap ones that are right at my desk:
Hemostats
Weight .8 oz
Jaw length: .9 inches (2.3cm)
Total Length:5 inches
Nippers
Weight: .2oz
Length: 2 1/8 inches
I purchased these at the discount fishing store- nothing special, just regular old stuff. I haven't looked at the Tenkara website but Id bet I paid a lot less for the same stuff.
I just noticed this post. I concur. The tenkara nipper and forceps are no different really to the standard ones available in most fly fishing shops (nippers and forceps). Same as Dr Slick and cheaper re-branded Chinese or Korean products. I have several pairs of each in several different brands, and they all weigh pretty much the same to within a gram.
i.e. effective products, and I use these all the time, but the tenkara branded ones don't seem to offer anything special over similar readily available units with different branding.
