All the talk about stove in cold weather made me think about insulating material to go under the stove and there was a round polyethene CD case sitting on my desk. 0.7oz. for one half the case. (see http://www.proactionmedia.com/proddetail.asp?prod=P3111 for an example)
Trangia makes a plastic gizmo thay call a multi disc to use as a stove base for cooking on snow that doubles as a colandar, pot cover, serving dish and cutting board. Go to http://www.trangia.se/ , select the language and then “multi disc.”
You could use it in orginal form for a cannister stove insulator or cut the hinge, and take half for less weight or both halves for ultility. A few quick passes with a drill would take care of the colandar function.
Snow peak also makes a small cutting board base for their stoves with indentations to fit the canisters:

The JetBoil stove base sould be universal too, but it won’t multi-task.
Mine was free and weighs 75% less if you use a half :)
drilling some holes in the snowpeak whould be fine… it’s PE, but pouring water through it shouldn’t hurt anything…
