Weight Weenie site?

I’m returning to hiking/backpacking from a long hiatus (Boy Scouts!). I do a lot of cycling and am fairly involved with that. There’s a website ( http://http://weightweenies.starbike.com ), that has a user-submited, comprehensive list of cycling part weights. I’ve noticed that the Gear Guide on here lists weights, but only of certain items. Not only that, I’m not sure if those are manufacturer weights or real weights. Does a site exist similar to the weight weenies site? It would be nice to be able to find real weights for things that aren’t necessarily ultra-light. Sometimes function is ahead of weight. Being new and somewhat concerned about trying to buy ligher weight gear when possible, it’s sometimes difficult to make the function/weight trade-off when you only know the weight of the lighter piece of gear!

I too have frequented the Weight Weenie site, and agree that such a site would be helpful for lightweight backpacking. Its natural home would be as a subsection or page of this site.

DrJ, I’ve never seen the wt. weenie site, but your idea sounds great. I for one, will probably become addicted to endless permutations of “what-if” games regarding combinations of items.
