looking at adding a little running this year and thus made some wholesale changes- pack, shelter clothing, etc
right now we’re looking at a lower snow year and thus no snowshoes, that could certainly change based on weather the next month or so

Mar 13, 2016 at 12:32 pm #3388827That looks like a good list for quite the adventure.
I do have a couple of questions though:
5 stakes for the Solomid XL? Doesn’t it really need 6?
How do you like the MB Peak Shell Pants? I recently bought a pair but haven’t tested them yet. I am curious how breathable they are and how much you like or dislike the fabric.
Mar 13, 2016 at 3:30 pm #3388871I was thinking about foregoing the rearmost stake, might not be worth it for such a small weight saving???
mine are pretty new as well; I’ve only had them out in one rain/wet snow when snowshoeing- seemed to breathe pretty well, not outstanding, but I’ve never owned a pair of rain pants that breathed really well
Mar 13, 2016 at 7:36 pm #3388932Thanks for the reply.
For me I don’t think the weight saving of one stake would be worth the extra time to forage anything? I imagine you will be so tired you will just want to set up and get some sleep.
Mine are new too. I replaced a pair of well used Golite Reeds.
Mar 13, 2016 at 8:42 pm #3388949true enough- I’m going to add a stake :)
Mar 17, 2016 at 11:10 am #3389825Looks pretty solid. I’d be gentle with those BD poles, after snapping a GG last year I’m going back to burly alu. I’m also suggest that unless the forecast is stormy (we are due, last three years the weather has been pretty nice) you’ve got some fat to trim as regards insulation. I’d dump the cap 4 hoody and fleece mitts unless things looks nasty. I also don’t think you need extra batteries, esp with only 6 hours of darkness each night.
You’re also missing the boating gear ;)
Mar 17, 2016 at 12:46 pm #3389858Thanks Dave. Batteries might well be redundant- I could always scavenge out of my SPOT if the need arose. Clothing as you well know is always the toughest part. If we incorporate some running (as this list assumes), a midlayer piece is likely to be needed- not sure how Alpha would do running (really jogging at best)- maybe fine. It is a lighter Alpha, 35 grams????
the mitts weigh the same as gloves, mitts are typically warmer, maybe too warm???
knock on wood the BD poles have been tougher than I would have thought, they do make a aluminum Z pole though that might warrant looking into
