Starting a new thread so not as to highjack another.
I have been experimenting with a new esbit stove and pot setup today. It came out to be 1.5 oz. total weight.
– Frito Lay Fritos Cheese Dip 8 fluid oz. pot w/ snap on cover – .6 oz (Found in the chip isle at local grocery. Removed top with Good Cook opener instead of by the pull tab top; has the added advantage of reusing the plastic snap on top.)
– 1/4″ aluminum rod pot stand – .4 oz. (~6″ piece from 3′ length via Home Depot. Bent into v-shape and placed on top of can stove.)
– Can stove – .3 oz. (Bottom 1 3/4″ of favorite pop or beer can. Cut off with tin snips. Added 4 vent holes with can opener. I also added a piece of replaceable, round discarded aluminum as an extra “tray” in the bottom of the can for the tablet to enable the stove to last longer.)
– Foil windscreen and pot lid – .1 oz.
( + .1 oz between everything; my scale only calculates tenths)
For a total of 1.5 oz.
Everything fits into the pot with the snapon lid closed.
I can also fit 3-4 esbit tabs into the enclosed pot as well as the other items.
The plastic snap on cover weighs .1 oz. but the convenience of enclosing everything for storage is worth the weight.
I also have a 12 oz. pot that weighs .5 oz. made from a small Heineken Keg can. The Good Cook opener doesn’t work on the smaller cans, so you have to remove the lid with a utility knife or Dremel.
(Edit for readability.)
By the way; I see a lot of people asking where they can buy the Good Cook opener; it is now available at Wally world for under $10.
Just FYI
