Quilt footbox question

I need help deciding what type of footbox to use on a one person synthetic quilt for summer use. I have made a two person quilt in the past, with a 3D footbox, which has proved to be a good decision with all those feet competing for space.

However, I'm not so sure I need that just for me. The two designs I must choose between are as follows (picture below):

1. Sewing a circle (1 foot diameter) into the foot end of an otherwise flat quilt, making that end start out in the shape of a 3D tube. The bottom of my feet would rest against this circle.

or

2. Simply sewing up the bottom edge of a flat quilt, starting in the middle of the bottom edge and sewing the halves of the bottom edge together, until reaching the two bottom corners. This would result in a triangular footbox that could lay flat on the floor.

I sleep 100% of the time on my side, with one knee bent and the other leg extended. So, only one foot would be at the bottom of the footbox, and that foot would be laying on its side. Therefore, I'm thinking that the tubular 3D footbox with the circle sewn in would be overkill. (Although it would look really cool).

Do any of you folks that have used this simple footbox have any regrets?

i love my drawcorded footboxes. Easy to sew and can vent if you get hot. They are better for warmer weather as you do sacrifice loft near the end of the bag, however this hasn't been a problem for me. I add a few snaps like MLD to close it up.

I have a Ray Way Quilt, the end is simply sewn shut.

When the quilt is spread out on the floor the end where the footbox is stands up vertically, however when you get your feet in there is flattens out ok.

If I had thought about it from the start I would have sewn and drawcord sleeve into the end of it to make the quilt more multiuse.

I went with a rounded footbox to give the feet a bit more space than a flat sewn-together-bottom. The line in the middle is a baffle with a down pocket on each side. The shape is a bit more oval shaped as shown in your top diagram.

I do think a flat bottom with the sides held together with strips of velcro would give you the option of laying the quilt out flat in warmer temps. Sewing in a foot box is permanent. Just using a drawcord did not close the bottom up tightly enough. You need to be able to attach some of the sides together in order to have the end close up to look like the closed end of a stuff sack.
