Having read (and repeated) that Mountainsmith is discontinuing its “Mountainlight” line of backpacks (e.g. Ghost, Auspex, and all other bronzy models) — I talked to a Mountainsmith customer rep. and he said that was NOT TRUE at all. The line will continue — as the Ghost is their best-selling pack.

Good news: these wonderful packs will remain for the forseeable future.

Bad news: No close-out sale. :(

That’s good news. At the time we published the Ghost review the word from MS was that the line had been discontinued. Perhaps a great hew and cry from the masses changed their minds :-)

p.s. Backcountry Gear has the Ghost on sale for $112.50. Some deal, that.

    Hi Rick:

I own a MS Ghost as well, and I really enjoyed reading your review of this pack. When BPL came out with its earlier review of framed packs and left out my beloved MS Ghost, I felt that was a glaring omission, given the Ghost’s popularity. Thanks for remedying this “oversight”. :)

That’s good to know, I really love my Ghost pack. In fact, thinking that they were no longer going to make them, I went out and bought another.

I applied for a job at Mtn Smith just a few weeks ago and was told that the MountainLight line WAS being discontinued, so any change in this is pretty recent.

And assuming they can go back to the level of quality found in the blue versions, Im glad to hear they will keep the line going.

I spoke with the customer rep just last week and he was absolutely affirmative that the line is continuining. Still, I find this “on again / off again” thing rather confusing.

In any case, Joe, best of luck; hope you receive good news from MS soon!
