I quit using Nalgene Lexan bottles several years ago, before they started producing colors other than plain. (gray) It seems they’ve become an “I’m outdoorsy” statement since then anyway.. AND they aren’t even light, by anyone’s standards around here. There’s a better alternative and it’s lighter at 1.75oz, still has a reasonably wide mouth, and it’s green and almost free. The wide mouth and the green color are the pertinent details that make the Mt Dew bottle a great alternative. I have used two 1 liter bottles for water at work for years and until I discovered the benefits of the green plastic, I had to deal w/ washing the mold out after only a few days. Now, I can go for weeks or months (mmm…)before my drinking water smells like a pond. I’m thinking it has something to do w/ UV light promoting bacterial growth. I don’t even care why, but I’m certain a smart dude could figure it out. They’re plenty tough, though I wouldn’t trust one w/ boiling water because of the cap design. The shape of the bottle also fits better in most pack’s side pockets, as it’s dimensions are taller/slimmer as compared to the Nalgene Lexan standard. As for boiling, I still carry a 48oz Nalgene Cantene. I can trust the lid/bladder interface as it’s the same as their Lexan bottles, which have certainly passed the test of time, if nothing else.

Yeah.. Simple, effective, cheap and comes pre-filled with energy. Also, it's fairly collapsible when empty.

Gatorade or other pop bottles are great, sized for your personal preferences of drinking an carrying. Cheap to replace if getting grungy. I also like to take a collapsible or two to minimize space requirements in my pack. I just refill my pop bottle, which hangs from my shoulder strap, from a collapsible, as required. I'm using a pump filter so filling into a narrow neck is not a big issue so far.
