I am about to seam seal a poncho and a backpack to add strength to the seams. Both made out of silnylon. Do you seam seal the outside/facing rain of the pack and poncho or the inside/underneath side of the seam? Does it matter?

David, I’m not a seam sealing expert but I did just seam seal a bunch of stuff and learned a few things. The best way I found to do it is to put it in a syringe and then work in small sections. Squeeze out a thin beed for about 4 inches and then smooth the beed flat with your finger or small brush. Then repeat. If you try to squeeze out a beed over the whole seam and then go back to smooth it flat, it will be dry already. Also, take care not to use too much.

As for your question, I normally seam seal the outside, although for my poncho tarp, I seam sealed both sides because it was such a small area.
