I went up 12,486 ft. Otis Peak late last winter and stayed four nights with two nights being on top of the mountain. I put a trip report up on a forum that we have started: http://www.grandshelters.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=26
We started the forum in hopes of helping our customers enjoy the igloo tool to the fullest. It's a brand new forum so don't expect it to be a busy one yet.

That was a great report. What was that tool you were using and how does it work? It looked to be some kind of form.

Thanks, I want to do it again.
It's the ICEBOX igloo tool reviewed here by Will Rietveld:

    Ed,

That looks like a brilliant solution to winter wilderness camping. And a really lightweight solution for a group too. So rare we get the conditions in the UK, though I have a feeling colder winters are on their way.

I hope your product is a big success. I love innovative thinking. Wouldn't cooking with alcohol be better than kerosene or gas though? No carbon monoxide to worry about.

Thanks Rog, I hope you are right on the weather prediction.
As far as the type of fuel for stoves goes, I use a canister stove and lantern combo that Primus used to make. We tested for CO levels years ago with the canisters and found that the CO level got up to 16ppm with the flame touching the bottom of the pot. Not a full blast burn but a strong burn where you do see just a tiny little orange on the flame.
I've only had one person use kerosene and it smelled bad. The Coleman fuel stoves smell bad enough and produce more CO than the canisters so I don't use them.
As far as alcohol is concerned, I've never used an alcohol stove.

I had to laugh! My wife complained for years about the kero stink.

    Cheers

    Hi Roger,
Years ago, I may have thought the smell to be manly, back when I used to toy with cars and washed my parts in gasoline. I used to love the smell of gasoline and even herbicides when I used to spray crops. Now I guess I understand that those hydrocarbons are not the best for me.
Good woman you have there Roger.

LOL! But hey, I did have a co worker spray Raid insecticide once when he had crabs. Ouch!

I hope you put your cigarette out before you watered the bushes! :)
