Glenwood Canyon, Colorado
2.4 miles round trip
1,150 feet climbNot an ultralight backpacking trip, but a great day hike.
We past this trail last year on our annual trip to Utah because it was to late at our time of arrival. This May, we made it our goal to arrive on time and hike the trail. Starting off from a parking lot, the trail head immediately climbs away from the parking lot. On the way up you can see some great views of Glenwood Canyon. Near the top the trail was steepest and there was some ice on the trail making it a difficult section. Within 300 feet; from the lake, there is a sign marking the way to Sprouting Rock, the waterfall which feeds Hanging Lake. The lake itself is spectacular, and one could sit and admire it for some time. The log in the center is also walkable to the middle of the lake. We made sure to hike up to the Sprouting Rock and it was awesome. By following the creek from Sprouting Rock and another short trail, I was able to get up above the lake over one of the waterfalls. It was great. The pictures do not give the area justice as it is one of those places you just have to see for yourself.

Great pictures, espcially of the waterfall and lake.
The color of the water is amazing.
What time of year was it?
In a rain storm the waterfalls must be something to behold.

Jun 27, 2008 at 3:53 pm #1440490We go to Utah annually in May.
It was early in the month too, first week maybe.
I've been on 2 of the group's 20 annual trips now.
I'll post the pictures/report from Coyote Gulch soon, it was our location for 2008.Jun 27, 2008 at 4:40 pm #1440498Nick,
The more post the better and extra kudos if you can put some captions under them to share in trip about the conditions….tell your story!
Nothing like being able to see the places that others have been.
As they say, "Photo is worth a 1,000 words."
Looking forward to your future post.
