Hello all. Does anyone know who might be able to make a 13′ x 13′ tarp from cuben fiber for me? I tried ZPacks but they are slammed.

Oct 4, 2016 at 10:14 am #3429283I would check with Dave Olsen at Oware.
Oct 4, 2016 at 11:08 am #3429290Thanks Ryan – I just sent him a message. I didn’t see any CF goods on his site.
Oct 4, 2016 at 11:52 am #3429294Dave used to do custom (and stock, for a time) CF tarps but I’m not sure if he still does. I know the supply of CF to the smaller cottage manufacturers has been limited since the Dyneema buyout.
Oct 4, 2016 at 12:49 pm #3429307Have you consider making it yourself?. Cuben is pretty easy to work with.
This is one of the many videos you can use as guidelines:
Oct 4, 2016 at 2:24 pm #3429320I don’t know your motivations but you will probably be paying just as much by going through people on here based on the cost of cuben alone.
We used to be able to buy direct from the CubicTech for around $20/yd with a minimum order of 9 yards but they were sold to Dyneema last year and they no longer do that.
Just doing a rough estimate…it’s going to cost about $400 ($380 for 13yd of cuben + $20 for tieout materials and shipping) in materials.
If you haven’t yet…check out these two places:
http://www.mountainlaureldesigns.com/ — They sell a 10×10 for about $380 and have done custom pieces in the past
http://www.hammockgear.com/ — They also do custom work and they sell a 10×12 for around $400Oct 4, 2016 at 2:40 pm #3429323Does it have to be 13’x13′? I have a 12’x12′ .51 cuben tarp, made by zPacks a couple of years ago, that I’ve only used once (a few weekends ago). I’d sell it for $310 plus shipping if you’re interested.

That sounds pretty interesting actually. Let me check with the powers to be at Philmont and I’ll PM you if that works. Thanks, ATG
Oct 5, 2016 at 7:43 pm #3429574As far as I know Philmont does not have a prohibition against CF Tarp. My question is why would you take one? This would be crew gear that’s in the hands of teenage scouts who might not understand how delicate it can be or have the skill set to treat it properly. The best value for troop funds would be a sil nylon tarp.
Oct 19, 2016 at 11:03 pm #3432022Many thanks all. We decided to to with a 12×12 CF tarp from Doug. As these scouts will be well seasoned in hiking and camping by the time 2018 rolls around, I am not too worried about them treating it well. Besides, I maaayyyyy end up carrying it myself as my “share” of the crew gear. :)
