i usually carry a synthetic parka in the winter for campwear. but i’m thinking that since i only wear it in camp, i might switch to down. any recommendations on a down sweater or parka for winter use? temps usually into the teens, not much worse than that. my parka weighs about a pound, so it would need to be lighter than that. thanks

    Hi Jeff,

I have a Feathered Friends (FF) Hyperion Jacket that I like very much. FF offers the Volant Hood that can be ordered as an add-on for the jacket. The Hyperion Jacket would have to be ordered with the Hood Flange and snaps at the time of preparation to accept the Volant Hood. In its lightest materials (Pertex Quantum the jacket weighs about 11 oz). The jacket fits like a fleece top in choice of 750 or 800+ down and choice of materials and colors and can be seen at:

The FF Hyperion is very similar to the Western Mountaineering Flight Jacket.

thanks for the responses. here’s another question. if i use a down jacket, how will i dry my clothes at night? i usually put my damp clothes on over a dry layer and then top it off with a synthetic parka and — presto! — my clothes are dry after a while. but if i wear a down jacket, won’t it just soak up the moisture?
