Does anyone have some hard evidence of compression stuff sacks decreasing the loft of their sleeping bag/high loft jacket? I would love for someone to actually test the effect of using a compression stuff sack for 10 hours on measurable loft. It would be great to repeat this test for a week and see if there are cumulative effects. I would think that for most of us “weekend warriors” the bag has enough time between trips to recover. Do sacks effect synthetic insulations more or less than down? I would like to especially use a compression sack in the winter. I just want to test it on someone else’s expensive bag first ;). Scott

based upon what i’ve read (not from 1st hand experience – never used compression stuff sacks) there are two issues here: one short term, and one long term.

    short term:
return to full (near full?) loft, or time to return to full loft

    long term:
breakdown of the insulation due to friction and stress (i believe these were the reasons) from the compression.

have read that it effects both down & synth. insulation.
