Hey all, first off I've always wanted to try a fancy walking pole but have stuck with my red maple stick with thimble bottom for years, so I am oblivious to trekking poles. http://www.amazon.com/Carbon-Trekking-Ultralight-Mountain-2PCS-Canaan/dp/B013U6OQ0A/ref=aag_m_pw_dp?ie=UTF8&m=A991RHRQH6QAV&tag=viglink20561-20 Does anyone have experience with these Canaan poles? $32 dollars and 6.8oz each, seems like they maybe flimsy. Also a curiousity of mine is do CF splinters from a broken pole splinters pose a threat if I were to fall onto it?
This is the first I've seen of them. If they indeed are 6.8 oz each, they would be lighter than the Cascade Mountain Tech CF poles. I say buy a pair. That way, you can tell us if they are good or not….
I broke two carbon fiber poles a few months ago. They don't appear to be particularly hazardous. Not all fiber poles are constructed equally so the failure mode may vary. Interesting question. I wonder if some poles splinter when pushed to the failure point?
cool that doesn't look so hazardous. As a kid I was washing a boat and ran my hand down a pole that I think was Cf but might have been fiberglass now that I think about it, it gave me tons of splinters. Anyway I found the deal here of all places on my monthly scope for deals, http://bushcraftusa.com/forum/showthread.php/159903-Carbon-Fiber-Flip-Lock-Trekking-Poles-33-Shipped
^^^Poorly finished carbon fiber can leave some nasty splinters but I don't think they've used it in boats for too long.
