Never had a telescope. Thinking of getting one for car camping adventures. I'm a complete newb with 'em.

    Two questions:

    1. Looking at the Celestron NexStar 6SE Telescope. Any telescope fans know anything about them/is it a decent newb telescope?

    2. Are telescopes good for taking photos both of the night sky and also daytime shots of animals/landscapes/whatever, or are telescopes terrible for daytime pics?

    Appreciate any and all advice.

    Hi Doug,

I'm in research mode and haven't tried this yet, but I found Forest Tanaka's channel on YouTube to be very helpful.

About 30 years ago I had a Celestron C8 , the original 8" version of the 6" you are looking at.
I did take some photos with it (on film…) .
The C8 was a 2000mm lens (35mm term) the 6" version is the equivalent of a 1500mm lens.
The two basic ways of taking photos with a telescope are Prime Focus (take the eyepiece off the scope and use the scope as a lens) and Projection, where you project the image through the eyepiece.
Generally Prime Focus is easier and better and that Celestron can do that via a T mount adaptor and T mount.
Not sure what you can get from that 6" via digital, quality wise, but it will be better than what we used to get on film.
For reference ,the Moon fills the screen/frame on a 2000mm lens , a 1500mm one is not far from that.

    Later…
Here is a quick video demonstrating the C6 on a FF (Full Frame) DSLR and an APS C sensor :
