    Hi Folks,

I am a long time lurker, but a first time poster (is “poster” the right word? contributor perhaps?).

Anyhow, this Fall I will be going to Nepal, so I am hoping the community can provide some feedback in regards to my gear choices. Thanks in advance, and here we go.

    Per forum etiquette rules:
    1) Are you SOLO camping, or part of a TEAM?
    – I will be doing a trek in Nepal as part of a tour group. The dates of travel are November 13th – December 4th. This is the dry season in Nepal, and on the very cusp of winter.
    – I will be participating in the Gokyo Chola Pass Trek, which will ultimately culminate at the Everest base camp.

    2) WHERE will you be camping?
    – Shelter and food will be provided at the tea houses along the route.

    3) What type of WEATHER do you expect?
    – I am expecting windy conditions, with temperatures plunging below freezing at the peaks.
    – I have been told that the tea houses are barely heated during meals, and are not heated at all during the night. I was also told to expect below freezing temperatures at the tea houses during the night.

    4) How LONG is your proposed trip?
    – 21 days, door-to-door.

Initially I am looking for feedback in regards to my attire choices. I will be carrying all of my stuff, so no porter.

Base Layer (already own, but open to new ideas):
    – Smartwool NTS Mid Bottom – 7.40oz
    – Smartwool NTS Mid top – 8.70oz

    Mid Layer:
    – Patagonia R2 fleece – 13.8oz (will be used as active wear during hiking)
    – Arc’teryx Cerium SV Hoody – 15.5oz (Will be used as an additional mid-layer if I get cold while hiking, and during the evenings at the tea house; will be replacing my existing Marmot Quasar Jacket, because of warmth concerns and the hood)
    – Arc’teryx Atom LT pants – 11.8oz or Patagonia R1 fleece pants – 9.3oz (will be used at the tea houses, and maybe while hiking if I get cold)
    – Arc’teryx palisade pants – 9.70oz (will be used as a general purpose pant for the trip duration)

    Shell:
    – Arc’teryx Alpha FL – 11.5oz (will be replacing my Beta AR jacket, since the Beat is heavy at 16oz)

    Sleep System:
    – Marmot Plasma 30 – 23.80 oz (Already own; will be supplemented by a liner, and my Atom LT pants/ Cerium)

As you might have noticed, I am rather partial to Arc’teryx. Their medium stuff fits me well, and I have an Arc’teryx store close by to try stuff on. Also, I am hoping to pick up a lot of this gear on eBay or via the forum, so that should keep the prices in the realm of reality. My preference would be to be able to try the garments before purchasing. With that in mind, I am in the DC area, so I have access to a lot of mainstream retailers.

    Thanks in advance!
