I don't know if anyone has been monitoring the Lake Fire which is currently burning in the San Gorgonio Wilderness, but I've put together some maps and graphics on my blog. See: Lake Fire Maps. To me, it was helpful to plot the fire on a detailed topo map to see which trails, trail camps, etc. had or had not burned.
By the way, the PCT east of the San Gorgonio Wilderness has burned. The sucky part about that is that there is just no good bypass around that area. The only trail going from the desert floor north into the mountains is the PCT. Not sure what they'll do about that one.
Jun 23, 2015 at 9:54 pm #2209528The latest PIO map shows that the fire has now crossed the N Fork of the Whitewater River and is on the opposite bank (highlighted with a blue rectangle). Big Tree Camp may have now burned. The position of the camp shown by the USFS is wrong. The camp is on the east side of the river where I've put the yellow splash symbol.
I've now updated my blog to include a time lapse video of the Lake Fire as well as updated maps.

Thanks for including a Gmap4 link showing the Lake fire on your blog.
Below is a link with another version of a map for the Lake fire that just shows (1) the most recent fire perimeter that has been posted to the fed’s public-facing GIS server, (2) arrows showing the wind forecast in about 6 hours and (3) USFS recreation sites.
The overlay layer with the fire perimeter is “on top”. If you click inside the perimeter then you will see a popup with all the attribute data the GIS server has for the thing that you clicked.

Jun 24, 2015 at 12:07 pm #2209670You're welcome, Joseph, and thank you for making Gmap4 available to the public. It's definitely superior for this sort of thing to anything else I've seen out there.
The bad thing about the GIS server is that it's lagging 24 to 48 hours behind. :( A more up-to-date map was released this morning. Not interactive but definitely more indicative of what's currently going on on the ground.
I've got a better version on my blog; I can only post 584 pixels wide here.
Jun 25, 2015 at 7:59 am #2209866It's a sad day for San Gorgonio Wilderness lovers. The Lake Fire burned up the east flanks of San Gorgonio Mountain up to and past the Sky High Trail. It may reach all the way to the krummholz at the very summit later today. Bighorn Mountain's east flank has also burned up to somewhere around 10,000 feet elevation. The entire San Gorgonio Wilderness and the PCT to the east is closed until 01 Oct 2015 per Forest Order.
