Getting to know my a6000 and loving how much better of a camera it is over my ancient Nikon D70. My question for all you Sony users out there is: What is your favorite lens? I'm not looking to do much wildlife photography at the moment, so I don't need a long zoom. If you could take just 1 lens into the backcountry, what would it be?
I've read some pretty good things about the 20mm 2.8 pancake lens, which seems to be a big improvement over the old 16mm pancake. The Sigma 19mm 2.8 Art lens is pretty well reviewed too, but is significantly larger than the Sony.
What are your thoughts?
I have the 16mm and it's good enough for my purposes and better than the kit zoom lens. That's typically the only lens I take backpacking.
I keep hearing the 20mm is better but at 30mm equivalent, not as wide as I'd like so I'd feel compelled to bring the wide angle converter, and so begins the weight creep.
So I'm sure the 20mm is great but is it worth it? Dunno. If you're fine shooting at 30mm vs 24mm, then probably.
I picked up an A6000 for the first time last night, as a colleague had brought one to dinner. He had the 19mm Sigma on it and said very nice things about that lens. Playing with the combo for a few minutes, it seemed well balanced and I liked the feel of the lens. He's a pro so I trust his judgement.
The 19mm is a great lens. Hands down better than the 16 OR 20, but not pancake. So if your S.A.W. dictates a pancake then you won't like the 19mm.
but for the price, and not even the price, just the performance of the end is great overall.
