    @mr_squishy

    Locale: Great Wet North

    Source: bought it new
    Price Paid: $25.00

    Summary

The first waist belt pocket I've found that I can easily access with my waist belt buckled. Roomy, virtually waterproof, and well-made.

    Pros

    Waterproof zipper
    Lightweight
    Easy to access
Easy to install or remove from waist belt
Enough volume for multiple items to fit easily
    Simple, elegant design
    Slim profile

    Cons

Will webbing loop sewing hold up?

I have purchased many different backpack waist belt pockets in my quest for one that fit my needs and desires: Zpacks, Gossamer Gear, Zimmerbuilt, EXIT, MLD, Elemental Horizons, and the pockets that are part of the HMG waist belt. My main frustration with all of them was that to keep them from sliding around it was usually necessary to anchor them near where the belt meets the pack. This made it difficult to access the pocket because they were 5-6 inches long and too far back on the belt to be easily reached with the waist belt buckled. I experimented with various lengths of cord and straps, but nothing really worked very well.

Then a serendipitous mailing mix-up at Luke's Ultralite resulted in my receiving an Accessory Pocket #2 that I hadn't ordered.

I took it out of the box, slid it onto my Terra Nova Quasar daypack, buckled the waist belt and, lo and behold, I had a pocket I could easily access and which readily fit my GPS or camera or food bars or whatever I wanted to have easily reachable while hiking. A small carabiner or piece of cord passed through the end tab was all I needed to hold it in place.

I have since ordered additional pockets (which now come in black).

The dimensions are 10.5" long and 5" tall. "A #3 waterproof ykk zipper runs the full length with tabs at either end." (from the website description)

The back has three equidistant webbing loops for sliding over a waist belt, etc. They appear to be well-sewn, but I'll be interested to see how the attachments hold up with wear and tear.

"The inside has a built in mitten clip key attachment to make important items extra secure."

The design is elegantly simple and functional. By extending the length to 10.5 ", Luke has created an the ideal accessory pocket. And I salute the Unknown Customer who originally requested this pouch as a custom order.

    From the website:

I just love little pouches!! Originally this was a custom project for a customer, now a production item. You can put this just about anywhere. I used hybrid cuben (50d polyester laminated to 1.5oz cuben fiber) to make this thing tough as nails. A #3 waterproof ykk zipper runs the full length with tabs at either end. The back of the pouch has webbing loops to run a belt through or whatever you'd like. The Inside has a built in mitten clip key attachment to make important items extra secure. This is perfect for your cell phone, keys and other small items. Enjoy!
