Hello everyone. Newbie to the MYOG trend here. Came across a video on YouTube where the gentleman was using 1/4″ double-sided dyneema basting tape to hold his seams in place as opposed to needles or clips. The clips constantly get in my way so I would like to find some of that tape but am not having any luck.

RBTR sells 1/2″, ZPacks does as well. I saw that Sailrite has some 1/4″ tape options, but what adhesive is good for the dyneema fabrics?

You might have a problem getting some of these other tapes OFF the fabric as you go. Most of the tapes you mention are designed for permanent adhesion.

Me, I use pins in the hem region.

    Cheers

I use the Sailrite 3/8” basting tape all the time, but I think they sell 1/4” too. It should stick fine to DCF. I’ve used it on other mylar film fabrics like Ultra and Ecopak and it sticks great. Highly recommended!

To be clear, basting tape won’t add seam strength – it’s purely to keep your seams together while sewing.

Another ping for the Sailrite basting tape. I use the “sailmaking and vinyl” for work on the usual backpack type materials. Haven’t tried it for DCF.

You can find the 3m VHB tape 946’s 947’s 948’s in the 1/4 measurement but often it is a larger width sliced down. Beware of quality (china).
