Double sleeping pad?

I’m interested in a double sleeping pad for trips with my wife and I. We generally use two neoair xlite matresses (one original rectangualar at 14 oz, one new tapered at 12oz) but would love to have a similar single pad at 40”wide.

The two decent options I see are buying and Exped Synmat HL (heavier than our current setup at 32oz vs. 26 or so.) The other idea is to replace my tapered Neoair with a new pad (possibly the Xtherm Max at 17oz) and apply some velcro tape to each straight edge to be able to join the, together. It seems that the weight penalty for the heavier pad may be offset on some trips by a lighter sleeping bag since I’d have a warmer pad?

Any other suggestions? Have you tried something similar?

Glue your two pads together with Seam Grip and some cuben tape

There are several products out there that strap two pads together. Google “sleeping pad couple kits” if you haven’t already. I found products from Therm-a-Rest and Sea to Summit.

I use an Accomplice with my wife and their strap coupling system works well to keep the pads together. It works great, but you still can roll into the gap and create a small gap. The main advantage of a double pad is no gap no matter how much you roll around.

Or just get some 1/2″ fabric tape/webbing, cut it to size, and sew the ends together. Looks like about 12 cents/foot at OWFINC. That’s what I did. Also made some UL belts with the same fabric and a nylon ladder-lock.

My wife and I also use an EE Acomplice quilt. Started off using the included straps and two un-insultated Exped single pads (old UL 7.5’s). No matter how much we tried, we could not keep the pads together and one of us would invariably wind up on the ground between the two pads (we both toss and turn). We ended up getting the SynMat HL Duo M. Awesome setup! The weight penalty was more than offset by the gain in warmth and convenience. It’s like the two were made for one another!

Thanks, everyone. I’m inclined to hold out for a double pad and accomplice – it seems like gluing the two Neoairs together would work fine, but I’m sure would void the warranty, which I have had to use once.

Our kids are getting big enough that it may be time to give them the full size pads soon and we’d have an excuse to buy new ones!
