I can highly recommend Salomon XA Pro 3D’s. They have a roomy toebox but a snug heel. Durability seems decent. The sole of the shoe is wider than most runners at the heel, giving considerable extra stability. The soles do a good job of protecting from rocks. They also entirely synthetic and dry very fast as they absorb almost no water, which was a huge plus for me.
