Yes, as you would have guessed by the title , we now have Live Dummies at Tarptent.
Henry has just added dummies inside his 3D "video" clips to hopefully give a better idea of the usable inside space.
The dummies are 6' tall, the yellow mats are the 20"x72" type.
This is a still from the Double Moment clip :
What do you think ?Dec 17, 2014 at 1:09 pm #2157458Franco, that one dummy looks like you. Now Henry needs to find a dummy cat.

Dec 17, 2014 at 1:19 pm #2157463I'm only 5'8" and not as well proportioned.
Dec 17, 2014 at 4:02 pm #2157518Cats pop air mattresses. Just say no to cats for UL backpacking!
Dec 17, 2014 at 4:12 pm #2157521It looks like a good way to evaluate better the amount of space inside a shelter.
Dec 17, 2014 at 5:36 pm #2157549The dummies are 6' tall
Shoe size please:-)
Dec 17, 2014 at 5:56 pm #2157556Franco,
I too am 5' 8" tall.
Interesting factoid (think mailman from Cheers)….5' 8" is considered the ideal height for a male by many.
Dec 17, 2014 at 6:04 pm #2157561I suggest making them 6'6" with size 15 feet. Which are a foot long.
When Henry stopped by the GGG I pointed out how many tall folks we had there. Over 20% of attendees were over 6'
Dec 18, 2014 at 8:31 am #2157693Honestly, although I don't own a Tarptent (yet!), those product videos are absolutely OUTSTANDING! Brief, no boring narration, nice music — and they show you everything you need to know. Really well done!
Dec 18, 2014 at 9:13 am #2157702As someone shopping for shelter (with Tarptent at the top of the list), I love the new visualization. Doubly so, as I am returning to backpacking after 20+ years, and have seen these products exactly zero times in person. :)

Particularly by those who are 5' 8", the very most objective on that very issue, no doubt. ;)
Dec 18, 2014 at 9:53 am #2157714I, too, think that 5'8" is the perfect height. And it has NOTHING to do with the fact that I am 5'8"…
I think the addition of the "dummies" is a great idea. It really does give a better idea of usable the room inside a tent is. Great idea. :^)
Dec 18, 2014 at 10:19 am #2157724These dummies are excellent. Henry already had the best visualization of his tents and these make them doubly useful. This kind of thing is especially helpful to those of us over 6 feet. I've always appreciated Tarptent's upfront honesty about its products–weights include stakes, etc. Now, if I could just get them to stretch a few of those tents so a 6'6" dummy would fit. :-)
Dec 18, 2014 at 10:29 am #2157727When I saw the title, all I could think was "They already have Franco…"
I kid, I kid…
Dec 18, 2014 at 8:41 pm #2157858The Australian branch does…
However the Nevada City headquarter has gone to the dogs.
Last time I Skyped, Henry had 3 of them slobbering over him , I have no idea how he manages to do any work.
Anyway I told him to stop using that bacon flavoured shaving cream .Dec 18, 2014 at 8:57 pm #2157862Live Dummies at Tarptent?
Ha… what's the big deal?
We've had live dummies here at BPL for years!

Dec 18, 2014 at 9:02 pm #2157863When I went to the TT site tonight to show my buddy how to find tent specs and I showed him the see-thru tab and I was amazed to find "occupants" in the tent.
Love the sitting and laying "occupants". It really gives one an even better idea of the headspace available for both positions.
Dec 18, 2014 at 9:11 pm #2157865Thanks Eric but leave me out.
I hardly know how to do stuff on the line never mind playing with 3D programmes. -
