Thanks for all of the info, I’m going to give the Cricket a try. I’ll see how it is in 8-12 weeks.Oct 19, 2020 at 10:39 am #3680266
I’ve looked into the Notch alot, I should have got that rather than the Protrail several years ago.
With tarp and ground sheet only do you think I could squeeze my 5 year old son in the Cricket or Notch for an overnight trip in case of rain?
We’ve slept in the Protrail once, it wasn’t very comfortable though.Oct 17, 2020 at 7:20 am #3680064

Yeah, they should add that somewhere in the description, I guess they’re too busy making gear. Ron confirmed it requires a jack, “yes, need the jack, we send one with it.”. The page pictures are probably from the pre-2020 version when it was 4″ shorter and a 132 cm or longer hiking pole would match the poles he sells.Oct 15, 2020 at 10:42 am #3679840
I see what your saying about the pole jack, they list the apex at 57″ and my poles are 49″ (~125cm). They sell the the standalone 2020 Cricket/Solo XL pole at 56″ The pre 2020 Cricket/Solo XLs were 4″ shorter.
In a quick look, the longest poles generally available are 130 cm (~51″). They don’t mention anything on the Cricket page about needing a specific pole or even offer a pole jack so there must be something I’m missing, I’ll see what Ron has to say.Oct 15, 2020 at 7:17 am #3679816
I haven’t seen MLD even offer a pole extender on the current design so perhaps they designed that out.
I didn’t know about the similar tarps made from silploy, they’re a few ounces lighter and wont absorb as much water but less durable it seems. I’ll probably stick with MLD, everything I’ve got from them in the past has been top notch and I’ve read their silnylon is better than average. Plus their 45 away from my house so its nice to be able to buy such awesome gear from a place nearby.
That rain kilt setup is a good idea, I was trying to think I could string up a rain jacket in the same way.
The crawling in aspect is the only thing I don’t like about it but I’ll deal with it.
Thanks for the pictures.Oct 15, 2020 at 5:13 am #3679807

15 Weeks! Good intentions only go so far, I never got a quilt or a refund from WMG. In his message above he leads you to believe he has resolved all customer issues with refunds, their order, and or free gear. I know two individuals other than myself who have not received their orders or refunds on purchases dating back to late August. He was very unhappy about customers discussing their experiences with each other and told me I was “bad mouthing” him on this thread. Additionally he deletes comments on his facebook post to make sure it looks like everything is great.
The one thing I did get was a lot of promises and excuses. This was the worse experience I have ever had with an order. I order a quilt Aug 14. I waited 14 weeks and filed a claim with Paypal, one week later (15 weeks) Paypal gave me my money back. I was provided 2 tracking numbers that never worked. I believe these were delay attempts to give him more time.
Aug 14 – Order placed. Original scheduled ship date Aug 21
Aug 16 – Received email saying quilt was done minus WMG Tags
Aug 21 – Ship date changed to Aug 23
Sept 6 – Ship date changed to Sept 8
Oct 14 – Says it shipped but forgot to provide tracking info
Oct 17 – Provided a tracking number.
This tracking number never showed it shipped
Oct 24 – I posted a review off 1 star on Facebook
Oct 24 – I a rude sarcastic email thanking me for hurting his business
Oct 24 – A similar rude and sarcastic message was received via Facebook Messanger.
Approximately this time – he called to ask me why I was commenting on backpackinglight.com about my experiences. “Bad mouthing” him
Oct 24 – Via Facebook Messenger he told me “yes it is complete”
Oct 25 – He asked me to call him, I did and we discussed multiple things and offered to fill it with down to “make thing right”. To me this means it’s not complete.
Oct 30 – Told it will ship Nov 1
Nov 3 – Provided me with a tracking number
This tracking number never showed it shipped
Nov 6 – We talked on the phone and he said he had cut the body for a replacement in the anticipation of UPS not locating the shipment
Nov 9 – Told me he had no new info from UPS
Nov 10 – I submitted an issue to paypal and requested he provided a date for shipping which must occur no later than Nov 17
Nov 14 – No response from WMG, so I escalated the it to a claim
Nov 24 – Paypal gave WMG 10 days to respond, they never did and my money was refunded.Oct 17, 2017 at 11:39 pm #3497354
