Continuing his section hike through the White Mountains in New Hampshire, Alpha-Gal continued North to complete the Presidential Traverse. This hike was planned as a 4 day hike from Crawford Notch to Pinkham Notch using the Hut system for overnights. Day 3 is from Lakes of the Clouds Hut to Madison Spring Hut. AlphaGal spent the night at the Lakes of the Clouds Hut. This hut is spectacular with awesome views and lots of space. Also right next to it are the really cool Lakes of the Clouds. Dinner and Breakfast are included with the lodging at AMC Huts and is served family style. The food was excellent and the Hut Croo was exceptionally accommodating to those with food allergies. The climb up out of Lakes of the Clouds Hut up Mount Washington is not all that bad. Being early in the AM, there was practically no one on the summit of Washington. Alpha-Gal did not stay on the summit long and hurried North to where the Cog crosses. Timed correctly, you can see the 1st steam train of the day on its way up. Timing was perfect and some great video was captured. Beware – The coal powered Cog emits screaming hot ash that lands all over you if you are too close…it will melt holes in your clothes! ☹ The weather was exceptionally clear most of the day and made for great summits of Mount Clay and Jefferson. The trail down Jefferson is exceptionally hard. Gnarly weather rolled in just in time to summit Mount Adams, which ended up being extraordinarily difficult on the way down to Star Lake and the Hut. This was the hardest hiking day Alpha-Gal ever hiked!
