Was it a big trek, a perfect overnighter or something in between?
Share it here or link to your trip report?
I will add mine when I have access to my pictures.
Dec 18, 2017 at 6:20 pm #3508167I’ll go. It was a trip to northern New Mexico for us. A little backpacking and a little day tripping. It was beautiful. A few pictures.
Dec 18, 2017 at 6:52 pm #3508175I’d go with my fall trip to Yellowstone. It was mostly a front country camping/day hiking trip, but we slipped into the backcountry for one night in the Lamar Valley. Here’s a short video. Managed to see a grizzly about 1000 yards away, made me wish I had a better camera.

Dec 18, 2017 at 7:03 pm #3508177I didn’t have just one, but two, each for a different reason. The first is the new year’s day hike I did with my brother up Mount Si in Washington. It was the perfect way to start the year and we had a gorgeous day. The second was my Sierra trip with Tom. He took me to a few spots I hadn’t been on our previous Sierra trip a few years ago, and we were pretty lucky, overall, with the weather. Other than the first and last day, we only saw one other person, — and she was lost or we wouldn’t have seen her (we did help her get back on track) — during the trip.
Dec 18, 2017 at 7:23 pm #3508183I didn’t get out that much in 2017. A GGG, a Trinity Alps trip, a Ventana overnighter and a couple other overnighters not far from home. The trip I took to Switzerland was great and I got to backpack a bit in new places.
This one was so beautiful it seemed unreal

Dec 18, 2017 at 7:42 pm #3508188Beautiful Alps photos. I need to go.
Dec 18, 2017 at 7:58 pm #3508191Hard to pick a favorite as they were all excellent, short, UL trips in 2017. If I had to pick one, maybe the Loowit Trail around Mt. Saint Helens because of its uniqueness – photos at the bottom of the following blog post:
Dec 18, 2017 at 11:20 pm #3508225Our trip through Humphrey’s Basin was my favorite hike this year, no question!
Dec 18, 2017 at 11:38 pm #3508229Probably a late June trip to Trinity Alps
Granite Lake, pass above Granite Lake:
Over to Deer Creek, bear:
Up over Black Basin, looking down Mumsford Basin, looking down:
That first 50 feet was one way – I slid out of control and there was no way I could have backtracked, no traction devices or ice axe. I don’t usually commit like that but I was familiar with the route beyond. If I had died I wouldn’t be posting this now…

Dec 19, 2017 at 9:44 am #3508289There’s too many to pick just one.
But there are two moments that stick:
A trip in the E. Sierra w/friends and our families on the Bishop / Treasure Lakes Pass loop;
and
My trip with The Girl in the ID Sawtooths.
Good stuff, fond memories, great thread! Thank you for this neat idea!
