I’m an atheist. I think this is the proper decision for the case.Jun 30, 2020 at 2:18 pm #3655508Diane “Piper” SoiniBPL Member

Long ago I thought religion was pretty benign but now I understand it in this context to actually refer to religious cults like Opus Dei or the Cult of the Shining City who mix politics and cultish religiosity into a mixture that is dangerous to democracy, to science and to civil society within a diverse country of immigrants. It’s the wrong decision. I hope that the Church of Satan takes advantage of this ruling.Jun 30, 2020 at 2:29 pm #3655510
Jesus Christ .
I am an atheist. I went to catholic school as an unbaptized child of a Jew and a Protestant; most of my teachers were secular. I got an A+ education. My parents stopped paying for the school after they went bankrupt and that was…rough. They sent me there because at the time Italian teachers would strike an average of 30-45 days during the school year.
I don’t see this ruling as completely unproblematic but I agree with Nick that is indeed the proper decision.Jun 30, 2020 at 3:05 pm #3655525

because we kept going there with the school secretary coming into our class and telling us to tell our parents to please come pay – in front of our classmates. That went on for 1 1/2 years along with little money for clothes or supplies or outings with the rest of the kids. The two months before I graduated we had no money for groceries; we were living in the office but without anyone knowing so we’d hang around till everyone left and then make it our home until early in the morning when we’d clean up and hide evidence of our state. My dad said whatever pain that caused it was worth the education we were getting.
Sorry for the drift; this brought up memories. All this said I would not trade my experience including what I learned in that school.Jul 1, 2020 at 7:17 pm #3655798obx hikerBPL Member

Maybe you can write a book. I knew you were one tough cookie when you started the business making gear; as if your posting feistiness weren’t clue enough :)Jul 1, 2020 at 8:42 pm #3655816
I’ll take tough and feisty…
