I’ve noticed CNN and the Big 3 broadcast networks try to do everything they can to keep from talking about looting, violence and vandalism. It’s like the elephant in the room no one wants to acknowledge. Instead they give you a nonstop shame-fest about how bad America is. An interminable guilt trip on steroids. But if you own a store that has just been smashed and looted, you’re probably not feeling the mood quite as much.
The placating and conciliatory mindset is about to reach its peak, then the the mood is going to swing the other way. People will get tired of seeing criminal elements run roughshod over business districts, objects being thrown at police and raging fires. Don’t underestimate how much people come to value order when things get really out of hand. What does this all mean come the November elections? We shall see.Jun 2, 2020 at 10:26 am #3650545Michael GillenwaterBPL Member

Video evidence as well as data from Minneapolis arrests show that the looting and violence was instigated by mostly white folks mostly from out of town and that the police force in many, not all, of the cities were also provoking violence with abuse of force against people of all colors. Don’t be so quick to yell law and order and assume you know who is doing the looting. Also, while we all condemn the street looters, they are stealing penny-ante crap from stores while members of the transnational crime syndicate masquerading as a government in this country are looting the public taxpayer money that was supposed to go to helping regular people not lose their jobs and small businesses, as well as just generally stripping America for parts and selling to the highest bidder.Jun 2, 2020 at 12:07 pm #3650554

So, I’m seeing videos of Black people looting stores, not white people.
I’m seeing a lot of videos with a majority of Black people protesting.
On the other hand, yesterday there were a couple fairly large protests here where I live. Not many Blacks protesting here, but then the Black population is 3.74%. Zero violence here too, although some stores in the downtown boarded up their windows yesterday, since the county put us under a curfew.
Point being, the media can be very selective.Jun 2, 2020 at 3:07 pm #3650574

It is sad when white people care more about property damage than about the daily brutality and extrajudicial murdering done to generations of black men and boys. Moral bankruptcy is what that is.
Antifa is made up. It’s the Proud Boys going out in costume and having street fights for the social media cameras, then claiming that all people who protest rising fascism in the United States are so-called “antifa”. Cut to the cameras. See how violent they are? It’s fake, like wrestling.
What is real are the Oathkeepers, the 3%ers, the sovereign citizens and other groups, many of whom receive support from people with more money than you or I can even imagine. Many of the people at the Federalist Society, the actual individuals, were part of installing Augusto Pinochet. They were there for Watergate, Vietnam, Iran-Contra. And here they are again. The same exact individuals. An American dictatorship has been in their plans since the Civil Rights Act.
A lot of young men are idle, no jobs, no prospects. You can bet they are angry and bored. They see a chance to express it when the instigators come out and start breaking windows. This has all been orchestrated by the people who would like to replace our system of government with a one-party state like Hungary’s.
The crime syndicate masquerading as a government said this on Fox News in 2014:
“You know what solves it? When the economy crashes, when the country goes to total hell and everything is a disaster. Then you’ll have a [laughs], you know, you’ll have riots to go back to where we used to be when we were great.” https://video.foxnews.com/v/3179604851001#sp=show-clips
We are now a failed state, and it’s not because of the protesters, it’s because of the way this fake government is responding to it. https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/cia-veterans-who-monitored-crackdowns-abroad-see-troubling-parallels-in-trump-handling-of-protests/2020/06/02/7ab210b8-a4f6-11ea-bb20-ebf0921f3bbd_story.html
The thing is, you will suffer just as much as I will the further we descend into a mafia state. Do you think your money is safe? Your job? People with no allegiance to the United States don’t care about you. They’re using you. You are a puppet for them. They make the reality we live in. They pull the puppet strings through their state media and their social media. They can run off to their New Zealand bunkers, their islands, their yachts and laugh at us while they count their money. When you say “oh those violent protesters doing all that looting are so awful, we need law and order” and repeat their dog whistle racist tropes, they are pleased. You’re not noticing all the money they’re lifting from your back pocket.Jun 2, 2020 at 8:37 pm #3650620Russ WBPL Member

That’s not the Bible….it’s the “Book of Donald” –
Book 1, Chapter 1, Verse 1:
And the Dark Angel raised his mighty staff and out shot an orange ball of fire. The orange ball of fire slowly coalesced into a being, more narcissistic beast than man, with unusual orange skin and strangely lacquered orange hair. The orange beast shouted, “Kneel before me, for I am Donald, a very stable genius. If you do not submit, I shall smite thee with my Super Duper Space Missles.”

The police let Koreans down in 1992. It’s more complicated than saying some people care more about property than injustice. It’s easier to avoid any nuances, I get it.

The looting and violence just ends up giving the far right more leverage. There is a large percentage of Americans who get very afraid when they see anarchy in the streets, whether it’s justified or not. They’re more apt to throw in their support to strong policing under such chaotic conditions.
I like to look at historical parallels, which of course doesn’t always say much about today’s issues, but one thing history has shown time and again is that when you start a revolution, you may not like what you end up with. That was one of the main warnings by Bolivar. And I’m not so sure in a quest for racial justice, sound decisions are always made. Take Rhodesia for example. Virtually the whole world ganged up on the white minority government (with sanctions) because of the huge economic inequities that were in place. So Mugabe and other Marxist forces were finally able to prevail. But now the black population in Zimbabwe is a hundred times worse off than when the whites were in control, on every level.Jun 3, 2020 at 8:28 am #3650651
” but one thing history has shown time and again is that when you start a revolution, you may not like what you end up with.”
Yeah! You can use that against all sorts of lesser change, like electing Trump
I don’t think any protests we’re seeing are revolution. A few violent actions sensationalized by the media. Maybe there’ll be some changes to how black people are treated.
Hard for an entitled white male to understand. When I wore long air and drove a beat up VW while 20 years old I got a little bit of special treatment so I have a glimpse.
I think it’s better for leaders to say calming things. Encourage people to peacefully say their things. Not try to stoke things up to get their base enthusiastic.
All Biden has to do running for president, is be a mirror to Trump. Trump can say crazy things, Biden can say presidential things, we can choose in November.Jun 3, 2020 at 8:38 am #3650652
“Antifa is made up”
I agree with you in general, but I think Antifa is real. They use violent acts to combat groups like Proud Boys. Even though they have legitimate grievances, they shouldn’t use violence.
Since they are just countering groups like the Proud Boys, I don’t think they’re a risk to the rest of the country. The Proud Boys are more than happy to clash with Antifa. It’s kind of like two gangs that want to fight each other.
Except one of the gangs carries horrible signs and the other gang is protesting this. I think we should also speak up against the horrible signs the Proud Boys carry.
For some reason, some otherwise rational people are more concerned about Antifa, I don’t understand it : )Jun 3, 2020 at 9:42 am #3650659

“Former President George W. Bush called Tuesday for peace and empathy following the “brutal suffocation” of George Floyd, an African-American man who died in police custody last week, and declared it was “time for America to examine our tragic failures.”
In arare public statement, Bush said he and former first lady Laura Bush were “anguished” by Floyd’s death and “disturbed by the injustice and fear that suffocate our country.”
Bush said they had “resisted the urge to speak out, because this is not the time for us to lecture. It is time for us to listen.”
“It remains a shocking failure that many African-Americans, especially young African-American men, are harassed and threatened in their own country,” Bush said.”Jun 3, 2020 at 9:44 am #3650661owareusa.comBPL Member

“Antifa is made up.”
Who boy, another conspiracy theory. Heard the NPR program The Take saying the same sort of stuff. That all riots and looting were caused by right wing. In reality, to paraphrase Trump “there are idiots on both side who are playing fight club”.
Locally that doesn’t look like the case with three car loads of Antifa from Portland stirring up the looting in Spokane. https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2020/jun/01/15-arrests-made-in-sundays-disturbances-in-downtow/
Police informants told the Sheriff and City police of the plans and the police were able to monitor the radio frequency of the leftist mob (channel 4 of the little talkie radios) which helped predict where people were going next to throw bricks, rocks, and Molotov cocktails. The Spokane Antifa is under pressure to denounce the outsiders. Several arrests have been made so we will see if any are from outside the area and maybe their ties to various gangs.Jun 3, 2020 at 9:49 am #3650662owareusa.comBPL Member

People should learn to co-exist like in Idaho.
“I’m here to protect their right to free speech,” said armed citizen Dan Carson, left, of Post Falls. “I just don’t want these businesses damaged,” he added as he shakes the hand of protester Joseph Riley Pleasant of Coeur d’Alene during a protest about the killing of George Floyd in Coeur d’Alene, on Tuesday, June 2, 2020. (Kathy Plonka / The Spokesman-Review)Jun 3, 2020 at 9:54 am #3650664
Antifa is not made up. Saying that it is effectively condones their violence.
Not surprising that people would come up with this nonsense but still disturbing.Jun 3, 2020 at 9:58 am #3650666
^^^ will the existence and actions of Antifa be used to go after protesters of all kinds? Yes, it will and it’s wrong. Still does not make it right to condone their violence; we cannot afford to be this simple. When my daughter was 13 she had more nuanced understanding of things than I see by grownups on either side of this.Jun 3, 2020 at 10:49 am #3650679
Seems plenty are content to cast a dangerously wide net when applying their often self-concocted labels to other people precisely so they don’t have to deal with nuance. I have no doubt Trump would be content branding anyone in the street with a black hoody that opposes him “Antifa”. Dangerous times ahead when this transcends typical human tribal bull$hit and becomes a matter of policing policy.Jun 3, 2020 at 11:44 am #3650694
