My phone and tablet are my cameras. I only use my desktop these days for mapping, posting resized photos to BPL and the occasional odd task. Thinking that people don’t use them for everything is naive.
That’s an excellent point, and nowadays, ever since I retired, I don’t use a computer much either.
And I’m no longer interested in writing trip reports for the BPL forum. Years ago I used to post trip reports on BPL and it was a pain with the old software. Then I built my blog because I have complete control over the content (if BPL goes away, so do all the trip reports people worked hard to post). When I started my blog I would start a trip report thread on BPL and simply create a link to my blog. I don’t even do that anymore, because, like Craig mentioned, they get lost in the Gear Swap Swamp.
Word Press does allow photo resizing. My blog runs on Word Press, and the “add a new post” and the “edit a post” look almost identical to the BPL forum “Reply” and “Create a New Thread” boxes (see below):
One major difference is the “Add Media” button versus the BPL “Insert Image” button. On my blog, that button opens my media library, which is stored on a server, and I can insert any media I have already uploaded in the blog post, or I can upload new media from my computer. The only media I use are photos. I can upload multiple pictures at one time (dozens actually) but the total of the files cannot not exceed 64MB for a single upload session. Once the files are uploaded, they are stored in my media library — none of the files I just uploaded go to my post; I have to pick any photos I want to add to my post — and at this time I CAN resize the photos very easily. The whole process is quite simple.
So Word Press has the ability to resize photos, but the photos must first be stored on the server. I suspect that even if Ryan were to allow this function, anyone who uses it would have access to the media library, meaning they could delete photos from the library, which would also delete the photo from any thread it was published in. We know what happens when people can get access to things like this; remember the member who deleted a bunch of stuff a while back?
It really is unusual for forums to store user photos the way BPL does, and given how long the site has been around the media storage has got to be gigantic. And it would get even bigger, exponentially bigger, if high resolution files could be uploaded — and sever space costs money. Of course I’m just speculating. The subject has come up many times and we never hear anything from the owner.Dec 8, 2017 at 5:31 pm #3506224
Sent this thread to RJ. Got a reply. Planned change is coming to alleviate the photo issue. Can’t come too soon.
But thanks RJ for letting me know.Dec 8, 2017 at 11:47 pm #3506315
I had like 500 trip reports but I can’t post them….Dec 9, 2017 at 12:37 am #3506364

He’s escaped! Well done, Michael.Dec 15, 2017 at 3:56 pm #3507644
There’s a new guy on chaff, Michael, welcome : )Dec 15, 2017 at 6:14 pm #3507661
Well to be honest I stopped writing up nice long posts a month ago…since then I’d jot out a quick line whenever I stopped by just to see it I could post yet. I don’t think I am going to go back and post my long and detailed analysis again. We shall see.Dec 15, 2017 at 6:15 pm #3507663
And I’m still in the banned moderator approve posts. Somebody must have come along and released 2 posts….
Total ban lifted, but still on moderation.

That’s weird. It shows Michael as the last poster but there’s nothing here.
Like it behaved back when he was banned
Maybe “Haters going to hate” was offensive : )Dec 15, 2017 at 8:47 pm #3507690

Noticed that too. He didn’t last long.Dec 15, 2017 at 9:03 pm #3507696
And now his post showed up. There must be a delay from when he posts to when it’s visible.
And there must be another post on the way that’s not visible yet because again it shows him as the most recent poster.
Maybe somewhere between banned and not
I would not think any of this was intended, just the way the software happens to work today.
Well, welcome half back Michael : )Dec 16, 2017 at 5:40 am #3507749
Well you can forget about me posting. Not wasting my time when I have to rely on the same individual (who banned me, lied to me, and refused to post my posts) in order to actually post.
The entire episode is an encapsulation of BPL the last 5 (7?) years. Out.Dec 16, 2017 at 2:36 pm #3507807
I don’t blame you
Probably Ryan is the one who decides things more than Roger and thus deserves your ire : )Dec 16, 2017 at 3:33 pm #3507814
