Eric,
I did not say your request was offensive.
I said I understood why he would take offense. I am guessing at his state of mind.
The disclosure you cite still does not declare what “sponsored” MEANS.
Taking offense could just be a way to avoid further explanation.

i never meant to say that you found it offensive
merely that its strange that john would since he uses to provide some disclosure in some old reviews anyways … To the point of citing FTC regs himself
;)
May 10, 2016 at 10:55 am #3401496The actual link to the review and the OP seems to have been lost.
May 10, 2016 at 10:56 am #3401497Eric,
Every time you repeat the same thing over and over and over and over again, someone somewhere in the world shoots a marmot in the face.
I hope that you can live with the guilt.
May 10, 2016 at 11:03 am #3401503Ian …
do we get to eat that marmot …
bbq marmot is a BPL specialty i hear
my AZN sensibilities approve of not wasting good meat
;)
May 10, 2016 at 11:17 am #3401507I’ve had BBQ’d giant cockroach in Asia. As the name suggests, it’s large so you can’t eat it in one bite. Despite my best efforts, I was unable to locate deep fried tarantula but I learned after the fact that it can be found at the Phnom Penh night market. For the record, I’m the whitest man alive.
Top that.
May 10, 2016 at 12:01 pm #3401524Even for the internet, impressive amount of drama generated by this thread. Last we’ll see of you here J.A. ?
May 10, 2016 at 12:15 pm #3401529That produced a healthful belly laugh, thanks Ian
May 10, 2016 at 12:29 pm #3401535Hmm, I wonder if I could reduce my total pack weight by substituting BBQ marmot for some dehydrated meals.
May 10, 2016 at 4:48 pm #3401601I love how so many posts were deleted by BPL. Tsk, tsk.
This thread wasn’t hacked. It was placed in the member only forum where it stayed for a bit.
May 10, 2016 at 4:59 pm #3401605I love how so many posts were deleted by BPL. Tsk, tsk.
For the record: I have deleted very few postings.
However, it would seem that JA deleted almost ALL his postings and moved all the threads he could to a restricted channel only available to Life/Unlimited members. I have simply restored what i can in a few recent cases.
The loss of edit facilities is a direct result of this incident.
Cheers

Backpacking LightMay 10, 2016 at 5:18 pm #3401608Savor the moment folks. I think it’s safe to say that we’ve never seen, and never will see, such an epic dropping of the microphone when someone walked off of BPL’s stage.
(Standing ovation).
May 10, 2016 at 5:20 pm #3401609I don’t even get it. what just happened???
May 10, 2016 at 5:24 pm #3401611I think you have to be an “Unlimited Member” to really know what’s going on. After all, BPL says “Insider Access” is one of the perks.
May 10, 2016 at 5:33 pm #3401616So since the hole in security supposedly has been filled can we get editing capabilities back so we can at least follows the rules in Gearswap?
Once your item has sold, please edit your topic subject to reflect that fact by appending the text *SOLD* at the beginning of the subject line.
I look forward to a night around the campfire soon with some of the participants in this thread. This will make an entertaining topic for a bit.
May 10, 2016 at 5:35 pm #3401617for a bit
maybe the entertainment value has already been derived
May 10, 2016 at 5:35 pm #3401618yes please ken!
Does this have something to do with Hillary’s emails?
May 10, 2016 at 5:55 pm #3401624I don’t even get it. what just happened???
In a sentence…
Someone posted a gear review poofay called him out for not disclosing his relationship with the manufacturer with predictable subsequent BPL dog pile followed by all of the author’s posts being move to unlimited/beta forum and most of his posts being deleted thus leaving the community to assume that the moderators moved all his posts but we’re collectively just coming to the realization that the moderators in fact did not move/delete any of them and all of this is a result of someone going black ops on BPL’s website code.
In other words, Operation Ninja Lorax is a go.
I literally just had a bag of popcorn as I was taking all this in.
May 10, 2016 at 5:56 pm #3401625Hi Jennifer
There was a dispute over whether anyone posting a review of gear should disclose whether they had been given the gear for free. It is a BPL rule that you must do so. Someone unfortunately took exception to being asked about this and went ‘black ops’. For the rest, see the recent thread about the review of a quilt.
I have already asked Ryan what we can do to allow the editing of postings within a day or so.
Cheers
May 10, 2016 at 5:59 pm #3401626Roger, I can edit now
May 10, 2016 at 6:39 pm #3401635Hi Ian
Out of curiosity – how far back in time can you go while being able to edit your postings?
I cannot diagnose this from my account as I have admin privilege.
Cheers
May 10, 2016 at 6:52 pm #3401637Editing has not all been eliminated. You can still edit you replies for a week. It that now you cannot edit the title or first post in a thread you created.
I’m calling this the Abela Effect.
May 10, 2016 at 6:53 pm #3401639Thanks Ken
Cheers
May 10, 2016 at 7:08 pm #3401645Hmmm ….
All i wanted to know if there was free gear, a discount or it was paid full price …
At least we got a few marmots recipes from this …
;)
