There doesn’t seem to be any indication of which threads have unread posts. Most forums mark unread posts with bold titles or a color change.Nov 26, 2015 at 8:56 pm #3367134

Yes, that was my go-to way into the site as well. Removing it has lowered usability quite a bit for me. Not yet sure what we’ve gained in return.Nov 27, 2015 at 9:32 am #3367202K PBPL Member
Noticed same thing, was reading some of the new instructions to see if a setting or not. Unread indicator is a huge help given the amount of posts to these forums…Nov 27, 2015 at 10:47 am #3367215Curt PetersonBPL Member

This feature is definitely on our radar for the spring upgrade. It’s not a simple thing to do, and is very database-intensive. There are all sorts of plugin hacks out there that can do this but they aren’t written tightly enough to implement without significantly slowing down the site when this query is requested with multiple concurrent connections.
I’m pretty confident that we’ll be able to deliver this feature, but it’s not a quick fix.Nov 27, 2015 at 1:57 pm #3367271
So what was the deciding factor with not going with a PHP BB or another matured forum software package. I think that is what many were expecting?Nov 27, 2015 at 7:51 pm #3367331AnonymousInactive
What we have gained in return, at least in the short run, is loss of Mlife members’ ability to hide the plethora of adds cluttering up the new website forums. Hopefully that, too, is on the radar screen for the spring upgrade.Nov 27, 2015 at 8:17 pm #3367338

I really miss the “NEW” id on posts within a thread that I haven’t read yet – starting at the beginning is very annoying.Nov 28, 2015 at 5:01 am #3367374Michael GunderloyBPL Member

I am very disappointed by the missing information on what is new in each thread. How am I supposed to follow the new posts?
The way it was done previously can not be so database intensive, all what is needed is to store the time of a last visit for each user. (And it would be even better if this was done separately for each forum.)
Please, add this functionality as soon as possible and don’t wait for the “spring update”. In the present state, following the forums is so awkward that it will certainly lead to lower participation.Nov 28, 2015 at 6:18 pm #3367457Jerry AdamsBPL Member

Isn’t this similar to “recent threads”. Except with “recent posts” you’ll get an item for each post, even if there are several for the same thread. If anything, “recent threads” is better.
Now what about having a “recent threads” or “recent posts” that includes chaff?

How about an update as to what is going on behind the scenes?Sep 22, 2016 at 9:11 pm #3427625matthew kModerator
Yes. I’d like to hear an update as well. We are way past spring.
This feature is definitely on our radar for the spring upgrade.Sep 22, 2016 at 9:16 pm #3427627

New posts since last visit. What’s the chance?Dec 9, 2017 at 1:30 am #3506398Ryan JordanAdmin

That feature has been logged in BPLTrac, and we are researching the best way to do it right now. We executed a few different cookie-based implementations in May 2016 but they weren’t so reliable. We’re researching solutions based on storage of last visit in the user’s database records. To implement this, we need the new database query update from the forum software developer.
Since this issue has already been logged, closing this thread.
