So our last AirBnB guests (newlyweds) were a little more afraid of bears than I am. I’ve now got a UDAP bear spray
and a UDAP jogger fogger in case you are attacked by an angry bear or upset jogger:
You can’t fly in or out with this stuff, so if you have an Alaskan trip coming up and want to carry spray, send me a PM. If you’re hiking on the Kenai, you could come by and pick it up. If you’re passing through Anchorage and give me some warning, I could stash it beside milepost 123 or the fourth lilac bush on the left as you leave the airport, send you the particulars, and you could grab it on your way by. I’m in Anchorage 1-2/month so more warning is better. Then you can PIF it or leave it in the same place and I’ll repeat the offer in the future.
If you’re going someplace else in Alaska, it’s less likely to work out, but you’re welcome to ask – I occasionally drive to Fairbanks, into the Yukon and British Columbia, etc.Jul 14, 2016 at 9:23 am #3414174

Good plan. We brought one can each on our Lituya to Yakutat trip. They made us fill out onerous and official hazmat paperwork to carry it in an ammo can in the Beaver’s floats. We rolled our eyes. Here in Kodiak a ziplock bag is enough if it’s going in the floats, sans DOT form 487D in triplicate. We had to leave it all in Yakutat since we flew out on Alaska Airlines, and I saw lots of the stuff there either for sale ‘used’, or in lending libraries, or in take-a-can/leave-a-can exchanges. If you are flying to Yakutat, contact the city manager, John, and he can set you up with our five cans of bear seasoning.Jul 14, 2016 at 9:48 am #3414187
Concerns about it in the FLOATS of the Beaver? I find most charter operators a lot less uptight than that. OTOH, if you post a pic on your blog of bear spray in the cabin, someone calls the FAA, and they come down on the pilot. . . .
Yeah, I liked the local rental-car company set up in Yakutat: There was a stack of tupperware drawers with a sign, “Need it? Take it. Can’t take it with you? Leave it here.” With fuel canisters, bear spray, high-strength and aerosol cans of DEET, etc in the drawers.Jul 14, 2016 at 11:54 am #3414227

I’d love to do a loan on that! I’ll be flying into Anchorage at the end of August — I’ll send you a PM. And thanks for the generous offer.Jul 14, 2016 at 2:45 pm #3414270
Okay, so I’m set to provide it to Valerie in late August. I suppose if you want to borrow it and return it during July / early-mid August, it’s still available.
Either return it or tell a good story about why you used it.
