Been hoping for a good, old-school Nokia “dumb” phone to come back for a while, with great battery life (compared to smartphones), simple functionality and built like a tank for hiking trips.

Looks like my wishes may come true by the end of the month.

    The takeaway

We’ll find out if resurrection of the 3310 is real, along with confirmation of these rumored Android devices, when Nokia and HMD Global have their formal event at MWC on February 26th.

@here indeed. “Rumor” spread like wildfire, though (every major tech publication released it almost simultaneously), so I’m hoping it’s more like one of those “leaks” of late, which are actually a different version of the usual press release, sent directly from the company to media outlets trying to play sly and hoping they tap into the “viral” game.

The potential to make a really compelling device for the outdoors is there:

    • Modern electronics are way more power efficient than they used to be back then.
    • Modern electronics are also way smaller, giving more inner space for a bigger battery, waterproofing, etc.
    • An e-Ink display (the ones e-readers use, like the Kindle) would make it easier to read in direct sunlight and improve battery efficiency even more.
    • Use USB-C for charging (standard every device is starting to move to) to reduce number of cables/adapters one needs to carry.
    • Decent camera. Though this would require a different screen, so… hmmm…

Don’t know why this idea excites me so much.
