WWTMI whew! Hey I had a lab a long time ago named Bosco and yep he was a chocolate. Anyway Bosco loved to wear sunglasses with a croakie. I’ll bet Baldy will get used to it pretty quickly. You can just tell from the videos and even the still shots that Baldy has a BIG personality. I agree he’s a lucky guy but I suspect you’re feeling pretty lucky too!
And good for both of you!Apr 24, 2020 at 8:01 pm #3642984Jerry AdamsBPL Member

And thank you all for the well wishes and encouraging words in this ordeal. We are hoping to be past it but life can take odd turns so we’ll enjoy knowing it’s been a good day already and we are blessed.May 7, 2020 at 10:25 pm #3645720

So handsome!May 8, 2020 at 10:56 am #3645774
He is so happy! When I thought his life was going to be really short I made a promise to myself to make every day of his be fun. Now that he is not on post surgery restrictions….I am keeping my promise even though hopefully he has a long life. Plus it’s good for me too.May 9, 2020 at 1:00 pm #3645979

we are blessed to have him and he’s pretty lucky too. Having that beach to go to is just unbelievable.
his eyebrows are way to tight, with the skin having been pulled back too far when they attached the graft. We thought it might relax but it isn’t and his eyes are suffering from it. He is going to have a minor…outpatient procedure in June where they’ll make a couple of incisions above his brows and let them heal without stitches so the skin can come down a bit. If it weren’t for the health of his eyes we’d let it be but it’s pretty extreme. I have refrained from posting shots where you can really see how exposed some areas do his eyes are.
Anyway…that should be minor compared to what he’s been through.Jun 10, 2020 at 12:36 pm #3652104
That “minor outpatient” procedure is a bit more involved after all. We just dropped Baldy off at UC Davis and he’ll stay the night, his surgery being around 1:30 today. They are going to make “several incisions and undermine the skin” from his brows to the top of his head. They can’t really say that they will nail this since it’s a matter of enough relief but not too much. Poor guy does not get much of a break but compared to his other surgery this one is not a big deal. It’s not a cosmetic thing; the skin pulled back way too much and that leaves his eyes exposed and vulnerable.
miss the little guy already.Jun 10, 2020 at 1:08 pm #3652108Jun 10, 2020 at 2:38 pm #3652130d kBPL Member
Ouch – poor little guy! I hope that this does the trick and you can finally relax about him and all his related medical things.Jun 10, 2020 at 2:52 pm #3652132IanBPL Member
Poor guy! Give him a belly rub for usJun 10, 2020 at 6:31 pm #3652176
Thanks. He is coming out of anesthesia now and we are told he is doing well. They made about 18 incisions but he was so relaxed …that it was hard to tell if these were enough. They’ll check him out in the morning and may give him a couple more but just under sedation. He’s coming home tomorrow. He is a good dog and maybe it’s because we are older now, maybe because he really is special, maybe because Lucy’s death really rocked us , but we see him, we want his ever positive and trusting and happy nature to stay that way. He has made me laugh so much that alone is worth going all out for him.Jun 11, 2020 at 9:33 pm #3652460
I was hoping to post a picture but right now we are a bit shocked. The smaller 18 cuts did not seem to release much skin so this morning they cut a 3” gash that is now a gaping bleeding wound. It’s very hard to even look at him and we are not squeamish. I have no idea how something like that is supposed to heal. Looks like they made a mistake and went to far. Hopefully this too shall pass and be ok.Jun 30, 2020 at 10:04 pm #3655605
The good news is that Baldy healed up really well. The bad news is that that was all for nothing, that last surgery. The big gash was supposed to heal open “by second intention” and would have taken a long time to do so; it zipped back up as if stitched, giving no extra skin to relieve the eyes. So here we are. His eyes get irritated and probably damaged by the sun but what to do. Try doggles again? Eye ointments? Honestly we can’t see putting him through something like that again. Here he is, shaved again but happy. We might just let him deal with this; the tumors are gone and no sign of any small ones they may have missed. That’s huge. This….may just be one to live with.Jul 2, 2020 at 1:37 pm #3655907AaronBPL Member
What a sweet boy, and so lucky he landed with a good family. I was following your thread but had to bail because pet trauma gets to me. Good to see he’s pulling through. The doggles are definitely a fashion statement, but I bet they’d also get annoying if he had to wear them all the time.
