- When I get an e-mail of a post on a topic I’m following if I click on the link to the post I can not get back to that topic after I sign in!! (I have to return to the e-mail and hit the link again.) Other websites, Long Range Hunting, for ex., return one right to the forum after signing in. Why not BPL?
- In a topic we started WHY can we not edit our original post???
You might have started a really interesting thread which attracts 20 or more postings by others. If you are allowed to edit the first posting, you can also delete it, and that will delete the entire thread. Hardly fair to everyone else. And yes, someone did that to a number of threads.

Well, I lost track of how many registered members there are, and, how many casual readers that never post. In any case, it takes a LOT of computing power to keep track of every person on the site, his last topics of interest (it might as well be 20 for the cost of the first one,) his post history (which is OK,) his permissions associated with all the threads, and so on. A couple distributed web servers also have to maintain currency among themselves and distribute the loads as needed (typical parallel processing stuff) and the extra storage in disk space, memory for all that stuff to be available relatively speedily upon request, and the overall bandwidth of the network connections available to service the request. On top of that the additional permissions for editing the first post and title of a thread would all be added. This is not an easy or quick fix. It *can* be done, but this would involve completely rebuilding all permissions, kludging around with a simple topic post turns into a rather large programming problem anyway, perhaps involving the base data structures of the program itself. Backburner this for the next major upgrade. It ain’t gonna’ be an easy fix.Aug 15, 2018 at 3:11 pm #3551480
Eric, do you ever look at the BPLTrac? All your requests are mentioned over there.Aug 15, 2018 at 5:45 pm #3551499

Eric, after you sign in try hitting the back button. It works for me.Aug 15, 2018 at 8:11 pm #3551520
Ken, I clicked on your link and saw info on many general fixes. Is there a way I can track my own requests and the responses?
William, So what does hitting tieback button do after sign-in? Does it permit me to edit my OP?
I do get it that with OP editing I could delete my entire OP or significantly change it, causing confusion for readers. I guess my solution is to merely COPY my OP in a “reply” then edit it. I’ll do it next time and see how that works for people who respond to the thread. There’s usually a work-around for these problems if the admin. can’t or won’t do one in the software.
BUT… The fact remains that my “Complaint #1”, having to go back to my e-mail to click on a topic thread AFTER I’ve signed in still remains a problem. PLEASE fix this.Aug 15, 2018 at 8:42 pm #3551526

Hi Eric. I was referring to having to go back to your emails to get to a topic after signing in. I’m assuming signing in leaves you on BPL’s home page after signing in rather than the thread you’re trying to access, as happens with me. Clicking on the browser’s back button after signing in takes me to the thread I was trying to access in the first place.Aug 15, 2018 at 8:43 pm #3551527

Not that I know of EricAug 15, 2018 at 10:13 pm #3551535

William, I tried signing in just now (my wife had cleared the history so I needed to sign in again).
So guess what? I signed in, hit the back button and still was not signed in when this thread popped up. I tried signing in again but was told I was “… already signed in”.
This is a problem with BPL’s software. FIX IT!Aug 16, 2018 at 12:17 am #3551556
Give it up Roger. Many sites run the way things should.Aug 16, 2018 at 1:04 am #3551561
The problem was that the new release of the scam SW (back then) was able to crack many captchas! That’s why there was this huge surge – and why new captchas are being invented all the time.

There must be SOME coder who can let us edit an initial post but limit the first sentences or lines from being deleted.
That would solve a lot. Otherwise I’ll “merely” add a post in bold that will correct the first post. Get ready for bold.
You have been warned.Aug 29, 2018 at 8:10 pm #3553681
Just do a sacrifice first post. Like BPL makes me do this. See next post.
Will be three years with this new site in November.
