Im currently trying to make an ultralight dog bed for my half husky (she unfortunately doesnt have the full undercoat) for super cold winter camping

I could repurpose my Costco quilt or go synthetic – I already have 2 yards of WindPro Hardface which I intend to use for the top, 4 years of gridded polartec (very thin and stretchy) I intend to use for the inside for her to sleep on.

In general with synthetics is the higher OZ rating the warmer fabric? Ive been comparing Apex and Primaloft. Most of the stuff Im looking at is from RipStopBytheRoll . My current plan is some sort of roundish dog bed with something she can slip inside if it gets really cold with some D rings to strap to my summer pad and then a little bit of down or synthetic insulation throughout.

Any good designs out there I can get ideas from?

Also I will be making a slip cover out of thick, extra thick linen that will become her regular dog bed because I want her to be comfortable with something shes used to sleeping on already (and it will protect the UL materials)

Closed cell foam mat always seemed the best for a dog bed to me.  Light, won’t be damaged by claws, and insulating.  A chopped down costco quilt if something is needed over the top.

Synthetic insulation isn’t going to provide much warmth in a dog bed. You need something uncompressible, either CCF like Ben H mentioned, or cut down an air pad and reseal with an iron. Or both!

My dog gets a cut-down Klymit Static V. The 75d fabric is burley enough to handle a dog and since it’s inflatable he can carry it. But for winter camping you would want more insulation than that.
