So I’ve been spending a lil while now messing around and making backpacks , which has been fun. My latest pack has been designed to be insanely comfortable (like overkill comfy), while still being insanely light but sturdy…it’s coming a long great…the concept was to jam as much luxury into my gear as possible while still having a base weight under 8lbs. I kid you not I have a theater in my pack. I can project movies. is it ridiculous? yes. but it’s been a test of how much can you cram into a super light set up. I have a ton of luxury items and I’m still under 8 lbs XD but that is not what this thread is about.
I’m about to begin designing an even crazier , some what silly, yet very awesome peace of equipment. The idea is a Land, Air and Sea vehicle.
A sturdy yet fairly light 2 person pack raft can be rigged up with a fan and ran as a fan boat, or be paddled traditionally.
You can then deflate and store away the raft, and hook attach wing(parachute) onto the fan motor and the harness… and you have a para motor capable of flight !!
the beams and screen around the fan blades and the blades themselves can be disassembled and stored away more compactly.
There will be a bicycle capable of being taken apart and put together with a fair amount of ease (maybe 15 minutes or so to assemble) and will be designed to be able to use the engine from the para-motor to make it into a little dirt bike.
Ridiculous? yes. Am i in CAD making models right now…Yup! Haha.
This will obviously take some years to complete but I’m serious about building one

Powered paragliding is an intriguing concept, especially in the context of backcountry travel. There’s a neat YouTube video of a Sierra traverse by a group of supported paragliders out there

Oct 5, 2017 at 4:54 am #3494917In 1988 Chuck Comstock competed in the Nabesna to McCarthy Wilderness Classic (a race in which you must start and finish with all your gear and leave no trace and travel on no roads or trails), flying his paraglider off a 6,000 foot icefall and landing during the post-race banquet, coming in last. Nobody remembers who won that race, but nobody could forget who finished with the most panache.
Oct 5, 2017 at 5:08 pm #3495000You have been posting a lot of strange “ideas” on here but I haven’t actually seen anything that you have made. Could we possibly see your unicorn backpacks that are crazy light, crazy comfortable, yet crazy sturdy? I would like to see what you’ve come up with for materials and design.
