A co worker of mine is trying to get ride of her Union Special 43200 straight stitch sewing machine with a table. It apparently works great despite a tiny bit of oil dripping very slowly when in use. She fixed that with a simple cotton ball when she used to make accessories for her home business.

Before I jump on this machine for a very low price (they want it out of their basement asap!) I would like to know if this would be helpful for pack making. I’m just a regular DIY guy but my Pfaff Select 4.2 struggles with the many layers required for some of the stitching on a pack or heavy reinforcement.

    Any insight would be appreciated.

    Cheers

Hmm, I didn’t see any reference to this being a straight stitch machine.  I only see Union Special 43200G, which is a chain stitch hemming machine with two needles used to make bluejeans.  I have no idea whether you can use only one needle on it to do straight stitches.  They sound like they are on the medium to heavy-duty side of things though.  Probably not all that helpfull….

Thank you Craig for taking the time to help out. I really appreciate it. There are a few version A trough F of the Union Special and the one I’m hoping to get was used for jean and bag making and has only one needle. Somehow I still can’t figure out which exact model it is. But for the price, including a table, no shipping needed and all in my Canuck’s dollars it may just be worth trying it.

    Cheers

I just googled it. That thing looks crazy! Good luck.

Yep it looks overkill to say the least! that’s why I’ll go try it first but right now, the owner is having some separation anxiety issues… I may only be able to try it or buy it in a few weeks. All good since I should really work on finishing my four person version of a Caffin winter tent and for that, my little Pfaff is just fine.
