I am a member of one other forum for Jeeps. In any offroad forum, there is a section dedicated to so called “build threads.” Urban Dictionary has a good definition: “A type of thread generally found on vehicle-related forums which is a chronological documentation, including photos of the steps taken towards either modifying or restoring a vehicle or item.” These threads also often include trips taken in the vehicle, and other more personal info.
I think it would be cool to have similar personal pages where a person can document their gear/kits, trips with said kits, MYOG projects, etc, in one place. Obviously there are pros and cons. Main con being possible decline in engagement in other forum sections. But not every thing that would be posted here would necessarily otherwise be included in a new thread under the current model. New threads now suggest a need for feedback. answers, or engagement with others.
I think personal gear “build threads” would give a sense of identity to regular users, and noobs could check the personal gear threads to view the progression of gear choices, hiking style, or general way of thinking of members they enjoy. I think it would also encourage more regular posting because not everything in a personal thread requires feedback. Just a place to put your stuff, to document. It would also give you a sense of place to come back to after a long time away. Like hey, still here, this is what’s new. This has a different function than social media obviously, the anchor is gear and an evolving kit.
I’d start one, even though I have no desire to start a “comment on my Sierra gear list” thread.
Just a thought. Anyone else interested?

The thing is my kit is constantly changing and changes depending on the trip. My churn rate is slowing down finally but not over.
I kinda think gear lists for a trip or the build threads of BPL. Thoughts?Jun 9, 2017 at 3:31 pm #3472525

True, but they just seem to fade away. If I want to check out your gear choices I sift through the threads you’ve started, which certainly doesn’t have everything (looking at a user’s replies is basically useless).
For example, I just picked up one of Bryan NobleBear’s packs. I might post some pics and thoughts on my gear thread, but don’t feel the need to start a whole thread about it for like 3 people to reply and then have it fade away.
Maybe I’ll just start one somewhere on here. My idea probably doesn’t need its own section under Campfire just yet.Dec 9, 2017 at 12:20 am #3506337

We are considering adding this in a future version. Our software actually makes this quite easy to implement, and I think it’s a great idea. We’ll have to do some testing on the dev side to see if it requires too many resources and slows the site down, but if there’s more demand for it, I’m open to trying it out.
It would basically be sort of a “personal blog” like space for each member here, and if you wanted to visit the member’s profile page, their posts and “activity” stream would be visible.
Again, really neat idea. I like it.
