Years ago I slept on a Sleep number at a hotel and loved it. But they’re pricey. Any suggestions for a Queen sized (can’t they rename these?) mattress that’s firm and NOT a memory foam type mattress? (too hot). And not cotton filled–I have cooties about mites. Firm but not too firm. $3-to maybe 400 range. More for something great.Nov 18, 2017 at 7:54 am #3502744

You live in Berkeley, right? Try out the various firmnesses of latex foam (not memory foam) or regular foam at the Famous Foam Factory on San Pablo (perhaps with the option of a 2″ memory foam overlay, but maybe not, depending on how it feels to you). I’ve been getting mattresses from them since the ’80s.Nov 19, 2017 at 3:28 pm #3502892

Some of them feel good for a nighty or 2 but make your back hurt with several weeks of use. We have gone back to a traditional mattress for this reason after struggling with one of the new foam mattresses for months.

Yeah, we tried one from Costco and had the same experience. Too much memory foam – did not work for us, very hard on the back.
