Tried yesterday, then again today, to add a photo from Mac / Safari to a forum follow-up post. Clicking the circled button does nothing:

    Running the latest Safari:

Text-only posts work fine; editing only text on a just-posted-post-with-photo works fine. Haven’t messed with Safari settings in quite a while.

I’ve posted with photos successfully from Firefox on the same computer. Including this message.

I’m running Safari 14.0, not 14.0.1, so there’s that difference.

I also am not running Big Sur, so if you are, that would be a difference as well.

@rex If you can email me the exact image file that would be great.

it doesn’t seem like the image file has anything to do with it, if I understand Rex’s initial post. He said that clicking the button that would allow him to choose a file instead does nothing. Something about the button. He never gets to the file. Unless I’m misunderstanding his initial post.

FWIW, I’ve got the Safari popup blocker set to “Block and Notify”.

Second try with BPL pop-up blocker on “Allow,” quit Safari, relaunched, “Allow” still on …

Nope. When I click the image upload button (circled in OP), nothing happens. Can’t choose any file.

The images I tried and failed with Safari, but succeeded with Firefox, are in these posts:

Last time I uploaded image successfully with Safari was a month ago:

    https://backpackinglight.com/forums/topic/trip-report-pictures-have-been-replaced-by-little-generic-thumbnail-symbols/#post-3680977

but I didn’t try again until a couple of days ago.

What OS version are you running?

What third party blockers are you running?

What Safari extensions are you running?

Mojave 10.14.6 (see below for why)

Ka-Block! 3.3 for last two questions

Except for point upgrades, no changes in months.

Five-year-old MacBook Pro getting flakier. Hoping to hold out for an iMac with Apple Silicon, ~6 months.

But it’s acting weirder over time. If I’m the only one with this problem, chalk it up to random bit rot at my end. Might be forced into drastic measures sooner that I hoped.

I think that’s a hint for me to bow out. :-) Hope you get it solved Rex, it must be a bit frustrating.

@doug-i Thanks for the suggestions. Even experts miss obvious stuff sometimes. “Step 1 – Is it plugged in?” doesn’t get asked to annoy people.

Re-installed MacOS (multi-hour process), many mysteries resolved, including this one. Poppy photo uploaded via Safari with no drama.

    Sorry for all the trouble.
