When I type a post and try to add a > at the beginning of each line of a list I’m posting I get ” on at least one of the list lines.

I DO NOT want this kind of “automatic editing” when I post. WHAT GIVES?????

Have you tried using the html element for specifying a list ?

The software has widgets to simplify ordered and unordered lists that might better convey what you are trying to post.

On the line above the text that you enter

There’s a “B” to select bold

“I” so select italic

“~~ABC~~” to select cross out

and to the right of that there are two for lists – either bulleted or numbered

Alternatively, maybe you are responding to

some text that someone else posted

then you say more stuff

then you quote some more

before adding more reply. the &gt character disappears, but the formatting changes so that nothing is really lost except the display of the &gt character.

and then they said the software turns a leading > into a block quote from the > to the carriage return/new line.

I think this is alrrady implemented. Just use text instead of visual. Text mode seems to turn off all of the intelligence.
