I will add text when I come back.
I took an hour and a half bus ride from my cabin to then hike up and then in this beautiful area between Graubünden and Ticino. The altitude of this plateau is about 2,300 meters. The peaks are clearly much higher.
I uploaded the pictures to Flickr and will add lots of videos later on.

It does look a lot like alpine areas in the U.S. I guess that’s why they call it alpine : )
Jul 7, 2017 at 7:41 am #3477562Yeah I guess all mountain areas look the same..
Jul 7, 2017 at 8:22 am #3477576Not quite what I meant : )
Mt Hood is alpine, why go anyplace else?
More like it’s interesting to see the original source for all those terms, like “Alpine”. Plants and animals are the same in some cases, or just similar. That would be interesting to visit there. I was in the German Alps a long time ago, but just spent a short time.
Jul 7, 2017 at 8:26 am #3477578Great trip Kat. I really want to do the alps someday.
Jul 7, 2017 at 8:52 am #3477591You’re really making me want to travel

Couldn’t agree more, but the principal has been established, and is now in the back of people’s minds, with the predictable chilling effect.
Jul 8, 2017 at 3:04 pm #3477875Great pictures, Kat. So glad you’ve gotten out on trails in those beautiful areas. Loved the yodeling from the Terri refuge.
We got back late last week from our hiking trip in the Swiss alps, over in the Bernese Oberland. More people, of course, as the Eiger and Jungfrau draw some of them who never even hike at all. But we had some trails all to ourselves and gorgeous flowers on every trail-have never seen so many Gentians! We had great numbers of flowers and many species. Good weather and only threat of rain at night. A low snow year made for some nice hikes up high without much snow. No need for microspikes this time. The glaciers certainly have receded since our last trip to that area of Switzerland.
Enjoy your time in your own special area!
JaneJul 8, 2017 at 3:43 pm #3477879Just amazing country! Large! I’d be yodeling too. I bet you were lost in delight.
Jul 9, 2017 at 2:57 pm #3478003@Jeffrey thanks. Yes I was so touched and the beauty of the place and my entire day getting there alone were all together a wonderful experience!
@Jane I am glad to hear you and your husband also enjoyed your time here :). I have had a blast.
@Tom, Manfred, Doug, Ben and Marc thank you :)it’s almost 11 pm here, I am packed up and now in my hammock in the cabin. I can hear the river and a bit of wind and a few drops of rain. It’s been a wonderful experience ( except the head bash but even that is all better now and all pain is gone). Alarm is set for 4:45 am. I will hop on the first bus out of the valley, catch a train to Zürich and then another to the airport.
I got to know this little town a bit and several of its 100 or so inhabitants.
See ya soon :)
