"The department shall post on its internet web site all reported predatory wildlife interactions, including reported human safety confrontations or sightings as well as the known details of reported depredations by predatory wildlife on humans, pets, or livestock, within ten days of receiving the report. "

A random sampling of about a dozen of these showed two sightings, and the rest were livestock attacks. Did you find any that were 'human safety confrontations'?

was the first one I saw.

There have been a couple of State biologists both that have pepper sprayed or shot cougars coming for them more than one time, but i didn't take the time to sort through all the reports. Seems like dogs and livestock make up the bulk of the reports of attacks.

They don't have a category for black bear, tho there have been a few attacks by them in recent years.

" Seems like dogs and livestock make up the bulk of the reports of attacks."

There have been a couple of close call incidents in King County that I know of personally, but they were not recent, and did not make the news. It's bound to happen as humans increasingly push into cougar habitat.

Does the report include Cougar attacks on Huskies?

What I find interesting in this list, is that for all the concern backpackers have about bears there is not a single bear encounter listed! (No bear encounters, or just none reported?)

"What I find interesting in this list, is that for all the concern backpackers have about bears there is not a single bear encounter listed!"

I think it's more of an issue over in Olympic NP, to the point where canisters are now required. Also up in the North Cascades, to a lesser degree, or so I hear.

"(No bear encounters, or just none reported?)" I suspect the latter, based on anecdotal evidence from friends who have had run ins with bears, although nothing that has required a change of undies. People see them frequently, but usually the bear is in a big hurry to exit the area.

I hardly would call older single women with a hankering for younger men, dangerous! Only dangerous, and they only attack, if you act da fool around them one too many times.

Apparently those Cougars up in WA don't mess around when dealing with those fool, younger men. Must be something to do with the lack of sunlight increasing crankiness or something? Moral of the story, don't act da fool around cougars in WA.

That is surprising to me. It seems like a cougar kills a dog once every week or two in Washington. And a sheep or goat even more frequently. I found one report at the link about a "mushroom hunter" who was stalked by a cougar which only left after being fired at multiple times. Mountain lions sure don't seem to view humans as a threat. I didn't even know Washington had that many mountain lions.

This one was also interesting : "RP ADVISES HE SAW A COUGAR WITHIN 100 YARDS OF HIS HOUSE, JUST OFF THE DRIVEWAY. HE FIRED TWO SHOTGUN BLASTS OVER THE COUGAR'S HEAD AND THE COUGAR REPORTEDLY JUST STOOD THERE."
