Looking for a used and inexpensive tenkara rod or setup for a co-worker. He has young kids and not a lot of time, so the $140-$200 kits new are out of reach for him. He was hoping to find something used and spend under $100 for a rod, line, tippet and maybe a few flies. Anyone holding anything they are looking to sell along these lines?Jul 30, 2014 at 11:26 am #2123440

Try looking on eBay,, or Amazon for the imitation Tenkera, I picked up a fairly nice one for around $12.00 shipped to my door.
There's a thread already started on the subject, you can do a search on here and it should come up, I'll see if I can find it and post it here for you.
I do have a Tenkera rod that I'm selling, but it's going to be more than $100.00, I figured with the cheaper version if it breaks I can just buy another one, were as if the Tenkera breaks that would be financially painful. LolJul 30, 2014 at 12:02 pm #2123456
Thanks, I know the discussion and remember it well. This guy would rather go with something else. I actually suggested it but he wanted something better and more substantial. He is looking at Chris' intro setups on tenkarabum, but I am hoping to find him something used on here first because those cost $135ish, and he wants to cap at $100. Thanks for the suggestion though!

You might watch steepandcheap.com. I got a Wetfly Tenkara package off there for $115. Probably easiest to go to sacalerts.com, and set up an alert to come to your phone with the keyword "tenkara" to find it again.Jul 30, 2014 at 1:07 pm #2123471
Thanks, also looking to make good use of someone's gear that may be collecting dust…. anyone? Makes me feel good buying something used most of the time :)Jul 30, 2014 at 2:32 pm #2123494

Tenkara Bum is a good guy to deal with.
A 12' rod is going to be a bit of a challenge for a kid. A uber-light 9' or less will delight them…
… and is a great rod for anyone on a 8' wide creek.Jul 30, 2014 at 3:34 pm #2123516

Rather than post in this thread (hijacking it) it would have better to start a new one.
1) There is nothing built into BPL for gear alerts.
2) I have no problem reaching Six Moon Designs
Now…. back to tenkara kits.Jul 30, 2014 at 4:11 pm #2123522
In case it wasn't clear, he wants a tenkara kit for himself… the little kids means that he can't be out on the water, often because they are too young to like to fish yet :)Jul 30, 2014 at 11:14 pm #2123594

In case you don't find a used set, I've heard positive things about rods from Fountainhead. The Caddis Fly Rod can be had for $60 (plus shipping), and you can probably piece together the rest of the kit for your goal price.Jul 31, 2014 at 7:44 am #2123645
Thanks for that suggestion, I had totally forgotten about them! That sounds perfect for him, I'll recommend. Still open to taking offers on used rods or sets…
