Does anyone watch any of the survival/reality shows on tv these days? Watching bear grylls new show(nothing else on) and I find he is so full of crap. He claims to be teaching survival skills but has the contestants running a preset course. Naked and Afraid is a bit better, (plus naked people, bit blurry tho) but they limit what you are allowed to have. Are there any REALISTIC shows out there?Jul 27, 2013 at 7:21 pm #2010100
I want to see the un-edited version of that one : )
Any show that has the people drinking thier pee loses it for me, although I suppose that might be useful sometime
I like Survivor Man with Les Stroud
There sure are a lot of survival reality shows. And "Real" Housewives shows…Jul 27, 2013 at 8:06 pm #2010118
I am not all that good at it.
Very seldom I survive till the end of the show.Jul 28, 2013 at 7:53 am #2010205

I think the survival shows are useful because they give comedians and ad writers things they can spoof.Jul 29, 2013 at 8:29 pm #2010754

OK, I have to admit to watching all the survival shows. Lately, I have been watching the Naked and Afraid series. The one where a man and a woman have to survive naked for 21 days. When I started watching the show my PRS (personal survival skills) rating was at 7.1 but after watching the series my PRS was actually down a few notches to 6.8. Anybody else have a similar experience? Seem to be squinting a lot too.Jul 30, 2013 at 12:40 am #2010801

TV shows are for entertainment purpose only. I have respect for Bear Grylls, he summited Everest when he was 23. What have you done?Jul 30, 2013 at 5:14 am #2010821

Rich kids have the best trips. Good thing Eddie's dad is well connected. It's who you know…
80 year old men summit Everest. Big deal. He's a stunt man plain and simple.Jul 30, 2013 at 7:45 am #2010850
Bear Grylls is one bad assed dude – he has an interesting book about Everest trip.
I hate his shows – jumping out of helicopter or down cliff – spectacular just for entertainment. I've watched his new show a little and maybe it's a little better, but just barely.
Oh, that's a pun, referring to that other show where they have blurred out naked people. It is amazing what the creators of shows come up with. "Let's create a show that combines people's interest in pornography and survival shows…"
I like survivor, because they show people stabbing each other in the back. In real life you only see this from one side. On the show they have video from all angles. For example, someone thinks they're being stabbed in back so they retaliate, but they weren't actually being stabbed in the first place…Jul 30, 2013 at 8:00 am #2010855

Survivorman was good because he did things for real without help. he had to bail on 2 shows at least when he got followed by a jaguar and the ice was melting out in Labrador.
Cody lundin's show is pretty good. they set things up but at least teach common sense about staying put or having to get to a place of better chance of getting found.
naked and afraid is funny because the big A type dudes seem to be getting shown up by the girls who work smarter.Jul 30, 2013 at 9:37 am #2010894

If I could do the stuff Mr Grylls does and get paid for it, I probably would.
Then again, decades ago when I was still a tall, blond blue eyed tanned and terrific…
hang on , that was a movie I was watching the other night. Forget about that bit.Jul 30, 2013 at 9:56 pm #2011084

No. There aren't any realistic survival shows out there, and here's why:
Actual survival situations require one to minimize danger and drama.
Television shows (if they are to get ratings) require as much danger and drama as possible.
So in order to have a successful show about survival, it's necessary to make a show that is absolutely unrealistic in terms of survival.
This is one of the reasons why the entire premise of survival shows is crap.
