I love music that motivates you, some songs just make you want to…get off your butt and go for a run, work out, climb Everest or something. Here are a few of my current favorites.
Anyone have any good ones?
Sail by AWOLNATION
Feel So Close by Calvin Harris (Nero Remiz)
Black Betty by Spiderbait
Roll Away Your Stone by Mumford & SonsMar 27, 2012 at 6:00 pm #1860216

Oh gosh, lots of stuff for different moods, but all get me going in one way or another…
Heatwave – Martha Reeves and the Vandellas
Hells Bells – AC/DC (love the way it starts out with just bells tolling)
Old England – The Waterboys
Get The Lead Out – Aerosmith
Is This Love – King Swamp
The Strength To Go On – Rise Against
All About Sex – Wilson Pickett (try listening to this one without smiling)
Living in the Jungle – Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears
The Sound of Sunshine – Michael Franti
I Wanna Be Your Dog – Alejandro Escovedo (live)
If I Ever Leave This World Alive – Flogging Molly
Movement and Location – Punch Brothers
And, for some unexplained reason:
A Girl Like You – Edwyn CollinsMar 28, 2012 at 9:01 am #1860431

I recall hearing the Marine Corp Hymn during my graduation ceremony from bootcamp. I was moved to tears but choked them back because I would have looked so wimpy.Mar 28, 2012 at 12:57 pm #1860534

As a runner I feel that my playlist can make a big difference in my run.
For the walking/warm-up portion I currently listen to…
Fix You by Coldplay
Now I run in a series of 10s and 1s for 5K. The rest of my song list (in order) consists of…
Invincible by Hedley (it kind of sums up my life)
I Like to Move It (Racoon Remix) from Madagascar by Erick "More" Morillo (because I'm a big kid)
Who Let the Dogs Out by Baha Men (because my son uses my mp3 player)
Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) by Shakira (one because of the words and two because my baby girl loves this song and dances to it with her big brother – that makes me feel motivated because I stay healthy for them)
Haven't Had Enough by Marianas Trench (to remind me that I haven't and I have further to run)
Hey Soul Sister by Train (because I am running a trail relay in downhill ski country and our team name is Sole Sisters)
This is Our Fight by The Ten Daze (because I am a Biggest Loser fan and trainer Dolvett Quince overcame his fear of the ocean and learned to surf in the last episode – this was the song that was played with the footage – really new and available on iTunes)
Popcorn by Crazy Frog (because this is a modern remix of a song by Hot Butter that we did the "Health Hustle" to in my grade-school gymnasium – it reminds me how far I've come)
Sunday Morning by No Doubt (just because I like it)
All to Myself by Marianas Trench (another one I just like)
Smooth (not the Rob Thomas/Santana version) by Ashantis from the Latin Pop Cardio CD (it reminds me of the YouTube running video below and makes me laugh – plus it runs at 128 bpm)
Then we are into the slowing/cooling down and I listen to…
All Summer Long by Kid Rock (because I simply like it)
followed by walking then stretching to…
One Life by Hedley (once again, I like the words)Mar 29, 2012 at 5:34 pm #1861228

It's old school but I like Steppenwolf's "Born to be Wild". Good song to listen to in the car when your leaving on a trip.Mar 30, 2012 at 8:38 am #1861491
I totally forgot about Born to be Wild… off to iTunes (lost the album in the house fire). That would be a great running song!Mar 30, 2012 at 9:12 am #1861509

My son-in-law just posted this inspirational re-write:
"(to the tune of Soft Kitty)
Hot coffee, strong coffee,
Little cup of joy;
Black coffee, bitter coffee,
Boy, oh boy!"
