Is there any homemade version or cheap replacement that I can get hold of? Same weight as well.

go to your local can am commander dealer and tell them you would like the inner foam that is used to crate the bombardier commanders it is a thin white ccf that
is used to cover the top of the crates before they wrap them with the waterproof crate cover same thickness and they probably have a whole bin full that you could have for free believe it or not it works really well
